professor lackey. he teachers ps201. he gave me a c+ in his class when i averaged out my grades and got a 79.65 I also did an extra credit assignment and i know it raised my final average by at least 1 point.

heres my grades

test 1: 82 (15%) (12.3 points)
test 2: 96 (20%) (19.2 points)
test 3: 54 (20%) (10.8 points)
paper: 75 (15%) (11.25 points)
final: 87 (30%) (26.1 points)

the average comes out to 79.65. I'm assuming he would round that up... but the plus one on my final average should give me a b- instead of the c+ that he gave me.


I am going to email him. but he never replies. I will call him tomorrow. if these 2 methods dont work what can I do to take it to a higher level? I deserve the b-

he's blind btw but i dont think that should matter. that's probably why he doesnt really check his email bc it's a pain probably.

He doesn't have to round up, its his choice. Don't piss him off and ask nicely.

Do not take it up to the next level, they will just tell you rounding is up to the professor and you will have definitely pissed off the professor

im saying if i cant get in contact with him where would i go. i've emailed and called him previous times in the semester and he never responded. the only way to go see him was visit his office. but I dont know if teachers are still on campus or not. once a teacher turns in their grades can they cut out early?

^why should you round up.. maybe because your a math teacher. Rounding is something that you teach. ignoring numbers because they are simply decimals doesnt make sense in my book. I earned those .69 or whatever points. if it was .49, no of course dont round.

besides if it were you in the situation im sure you would want to be rounded compared to not, but of course you could say no to this point blah blah blah they didnt make the other .5 points on their own im not going to give it to them im a nazi grader.

No, I don't teach rounding. Plus I think you don't understand basic inequalities. Nobody "ignores numbers because they are decimals". Man, I'm ashamed to have a degree from the same institution you'll be getting it from.

If it says, for instance that 90-100 is A and 80-90 is B then guess what it means? If your final grade IS LESS THAN 90 then you get B. 89.69 is less than 90. Deal with it.

Actually its not that difficult.

Anyways, best thing to do would be to email him/her and ask for a numerical breakdown of the grades. That way you can politely ask where the extra credit belongs and how it affects the final grade.

the extra credit can add up to 5 final points to the entire grade. if you get graded a 60 on the final essay you get 1 point. anything below that is zero points. I'm under the ASSUMPTION lol that i got at least 1 point. If i didnt and he doesnt round im screwed. I'll email him.

i saw him checking his email while i was taking a makeup test. although easy not as easy for you or me.

I don't see what the big deal is here. She said she got extra credit of at least 1 point. That means her final grade should be an 80.65 which is a B-.

First and foremost, coming to a professor with your current mindset isn't going to help your situation at all. Take the advice posted above and cool off before you send any other e-mails or attempt to contact this professor. Granted, there is a possibility that there may have been an error... but it is the professor's final decision that determines your grade, thus treating him/her with disrespect is simply going to get you stuck with a C+.

(On another note... after your mathematically incorrect comments, and your inability to properly use English grammar (or spell for that matter), what in the world is your major? You're going to be in an awfully sore place if you can't spell or understand simple mathematical concepts when you are done at this institution.)

** Yes, you earned your .69 or however many hundredths of a point, but if your grade was not bumped up past an 80 due to the extra credit you did not EARN an 80... it is through the generosity of certain professors that you are GIVEN those few tenths or hundredths of a point because you came so close to the cutoff.

Good Luck with your situation... Just make sure your argument is clear before you start proclaiming that you are now the product of misfortune.

you have an 82,96,54,75 and 87
each one of those numbers has 2 significant figures
so how the fuck does the final grade end up having like 5, that makes no sense

First, talk to the professor. If email does not work, you can call. Professors may be in and out alot now until the semester starts in the Spring. The grade can still be reviewed and changed, if appropriate, in January. If you have trouble contacting the professor, usually the departmental secretary (chair's secretary) or the coordinator of advising might know his/her schedule or the best way to reach him.

PS- in high school, I once got a B+ when the A- was only 1/10 of a point higher. my prof didn't round. Such is life sometimes.

I'm not going to go yelling at the professor. I am just going to go ahead and ask him what I got on the extra credit. If he DOES say no points. then I have no case. If he says at least 1 point then I have a case.

Because he is a MathFreak he will not round up. If instead of teaching he were an Engineer or something which required application of math in the real world he would round up.

are you sure that the extra credit was to be added to the final COURSE grade, and not the grade you earned on THE final? I see that mistake a lot.
