MY MOCK DRAFT

I assumed the steelers are going to lose to the colts, and the pats are going to beat the broncos and then beat INdy to make it the the superbowl where they will win it again

I also assumed the Carolina will beat chicago and that the skins will lose to the seahawks, who then will lose to the panthers

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I also assume the 49ers trade down to the Browns' spot #13
The Lions Trade down to #20 with KC

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2006 Draft Order

1. Houston - Reggie Bush, RB USC (theyve already said so)

2. New Orleans - Matt Leinart, QB USC (he is the best QB in the draft and is a pocket passer, somthing the Aints wished theyve had while putting up with aaron brooks)

3. Tennessee - Vincent Young, QB Texas ( McNair has tutored him for a while, now he gets the chance to keep the starting spot warm for vince until he's ready)

4. New York Jets - DeAngelo Williams, RB Memphis (they need someone for C-Mart, but they also need a lot of other things, so they'll settle for the #2 rb in the draft. I could also see them trading this pick to maybe Arizona so arizona can take Williams)

5. Green Bay - Mario Williams, DE NCSU (Poor Mario )

6. Oakland - AJ Hawk, LB Ohio St (Not only does he look like an oldschool raider from the tecmo bowl era, the raiders need LBs badly, i could also mebbe see them taking jimmy williams here)

7. *Cleveland* - Mathias Kiwanuka, DE BC (Cleveland BADLY needs a pass rusher and have used a converted DT at DE most of the season in their 3-4 scheme, so they trade up, happy that Mathias is still available)

8. Buffalo - D'Brickashaw Ferguson UVA (As bad as they could use Ngata at DT, their OL is absolutely horrible, so they grab the best OL)

9. *Kansas City* - Haloti Ngata, DT Oregon (The Cheifs trade up for the best DT in the draft and fill a huge hole in their D. Now Kendrell Bell and Derrick Johnson have some help in the middle)

10. Arizona - Vernon Davis, TE UMD (This pick gives Denny Green maybe one of the best WRs/TE group in the NFL. Davis is a perfect fit for the Denny Green system in Arizona. He will probably go for a RB in rd 2 again this year as Arrington hasnt panned out so far)

11. St. Louis - Jimmy Williams, Safety/CB VT (their secondary was toasted like every week and badly need help in this area)

12. *San Francisco*- Michael Huff, S Texas (The 49ers need many parts, so in the trade down they aquire this pick and other that can help them build. Safety is a big need in SF and Huff is the best one in the draft. In my opinion this would be the perfect realistic situation for the 9ers)

13. Baltimore - Winston Justice, OT USC (With Ogden and Brown getting into their 11th nfl season next year, Baltimore will need help on their OL, and with Justice they get another athletic tackle in the Ogden mold)

14. Philadelphia - Santonio Holmes, WR Ohio St (With the departure of TO, the eagles are stuck at WR. Reggie brown isnt the answer, neither is pinkston. Holmes gives McNabb a solid down the field threat and is a solid blocker, which is needed in the Eagles offensive scheme)

15. Atlanta - Marcus McNeill, OT Auburn (The falcons also could use safety help, but they need to protect Schaub...ehem... Vick better and their current OLine is a mess)

16. Miami - Brodrick Bunkley, DT FSU (I really think the Dolphins will make a move for a QB already in the NFL way b4 the draft starts. So with this pick they shore up their interior D-line and add depth to a spot whose starters will be turning 36 and 37 this year)

17. Minnesota - Laurence Maloney, RB Minnesota (With onterrio smith gone, bennett going to be gone and moe williams a FA, the vikings have a chance to add a REAL starting RB who will be able to open up the passing game for Daunte Culpepper. It also helps that Maloney went to UMinnesota)

18. Dallas - Eric Winston, OT Miami (an obvious need for a team who has to protect the immobile Bledsoe)

19. San Diego - Chad Greenway, LB Iowa (Perfect fit for Marty's 3-4 D on the other side of Merriman)

20. *Detroit* - Jay Cutler, QB Vanderbilt (Well I think my Lions will trade down with him in mind, this is their most glaring need and they will address OL with the extra 2nd rd pick they got from KC)

21. Tampa Bay - Thomas Howard, OLB UTEP (LB is a position of need for the bucs, as well as OL, but they are getting the best athlete available and he also fills a need)

22. New York Giants - Tamba Hali, DE PSU (They need a replacement for Strahan when ever his body starts giving up on him, and Hali could be the 3rd best DE in the draft)

23. Cincinnati - Demeco Ryans, ILB Alabama (The bengals NEED defense. Here they get a guy that does not have prototypical speed or size, but is a leader and a smart player. Possibly someone to bring the Defense together at the MLB position)

24. Jacksonville - Kelly Jennings, CB Miami (Jacksonville desperately needs a solid CB to play on the other side of Rashean Mathis)

25. Denver(from WAS) - Leonard Pope, TE Georgia (A perfect fit for the Broncos, at 6'7" 250, Pope can catch and block(which we all know is important in Denver), not just one or the other like the TE by committee there this year)

26. Chicago - Derek Hagan, WR ASU (Chicago desperately needs a WR to compliment Muhammed, and the Hagan gives them another big receiver perfect for their style of possesion offense)

27. Pittsburgh - Lendale White, RB USC (With Bettis leaving and their entire focus on the running game, the steelers need a bruiser and White could fall right in their lap)

28. Denver - Laron Landry, Safety LSU (Denver needs to begin grooming a replacement for John Lynch and with their 2nd 1st rd pick, they get a steal)

29. Seattle - Orien Harris, DT Miami (Seattle needs interior line help. That is where their run defense was exposed many times this season, not to mention the talent level at the DT position is low. Harris would be a great addition and is in the cortez kennedy mold)

30. Indianapolis - Elvis Dumervil, DE Louisville (With David THornton likely leaving for Free agency, the addition of Dumervil to the line would allow them to move Robert mathis back to LB to replace thornton. Also Dumervil has recieved some freeney comarisons but lacks the speed that freeny has)

31. Carolina - Mercedes Lewis, TE UCLA (As much as I think they should look to the defensive side, this would be a great addition to the offense, giving Delhomme a solid red-zone threat)

32. New England - Maurice Drew, RB UCLA (with all the injuries at RB, they need some fresh blood. I could see them going RB to solidify the position and to have a true rb (as evans and pass were FBs) to back up dillon until he retires or they get rid of him)

Very interesting & well done. But do you really think Ferguson will be on the board that long? I forsee someone trading up to 4th, 5th, or 6th to get him. I guess it depends if teams are concerned about injuries.

This is certainly interesting. He is good & all, but the #5 pick overall? If they want him, they should trade down & let someone take Mario or Ferguson in the 5th slot. Especially considering that San Fran is the only team from 6th to 12th that would likely be interested in a RB, & they have so many other needs, that is unlikely.

That certainly would shake up your mock draft.

You're have RB DeAngelo Williams from memphis too high i think... he seems the be the best Senior RB available, but probably a mid-late 1st rounder

at that spot why wouldnt they

i mean they do have to have a replacement for strahan, and unfortunately at that stage of the draft, none of their needs (WR, CB) are available other than LB, and i think they'd go with the best player available, then again im not coughlin

i say that b/c hagans is not a good compliment to plaxico, as he is the same type of WR.

^^Hagans is 6'1, Plexico is 6'5. The Giants need LB, OL, and CB in that order.

I think it'll be interesting to see what Dallas does at 18, if they stay there. Obvious need #1 is O-Line. But they also need youth at WR, and at this spot they could likely get the best WR available.

It could be a spot for Jay Cutler too. However, I have heard the Saints really like him and may deal down to get him

VERSION 2

I assumed the steelers are going to lose to the broncos who will then lose in the superbowl.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

22. New York Giants - Ashton Youboty, CB Ohio St. (The Giants need defensive help, and having Youboty at CB is insurance in case Will Peterson can not come back at full speed)

26. New England - Ernie Sims, LB Fla. St. ( With Willie McGinest and Chad Brown retiring and the average age of their starting LBs like 33, they get what may be the steal of the 1st round in Sims)

27. Chicago - Derek Hagan, WR ASU (Chicago desperately needs a WR to compliment Muhammed, and the Hagan gives them another big receiver perfect for their style of possesion offense)

28. Indianapolis - Brian Calhoun, RB Wisconsin (When his workouts at the camps show his 4.35 speed, Calhoun will vault into the 1st round. And with Edge in a contract year, and the oft injured backups to edge, why not a RB in the first round. Calhoun fits the Colts offense better than White)

29. Pittsburgh - Lendale White, RB USC (With Bettis leaving and their entire focus on the running game, the steelers need a bruiser and White could fall right in their lap)

30. Seattle - Orien Harris, DT Miami (Seattle needs interior line help. That is where their run defense was exposed many times this season, not to mention the talent level at the DT position is low. Harris would be a great addition and is in the cortez kennedy mold)

31. Denver - Ko Simpson, S S. Carolina (Denver needs to begin grooming a replacement for John Lynch and with their 2nd 1st rd pick, they get one of the best athletes in the draft, though some people believe Simpson needs more polish)

32. Carolina - Chad Jackson, WR Florida (God does Steve Smith need help, haha well not really, but imagine if he did have help!)

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/columns/story?id=2285897

Quote :
"
For the second straight year, Vince Young made the Rose Bowl his own personal playground. Not only did Young lead Texas to its first national title since 1970, he also propelled himself near the top of the 2006 NFL draft, and made himself a lot of money in the process.
The Houston Texans already have said they will take USC running back Reggie Bush (if he declares) with the No. 1 overall pick. The New Orleans Saints pick next, followed by the Tennessee Titans, both of which will be in the market for a quarterback of the future.

Young isn't the only underclassman quarterback to declare for April's draft, but he is the only one who will go in the first round.

Quarterback
Vince Young, Texas
2005: 65.2 completion percentage, 3,036 passing yards, 26 touchdowns; 1,050 rushing yards, 12 TDs

Vince Young will be no worse than the third pick in the 2006 draft.
He moved from being the ninth or 10th pick in the draft up to -- at worst -- third overall based on his Rose Bowl performance. He possibly could go second to the Saints, but I'm projecting Matt Leinart there right now. Young would then go third overall to the Titans. he showed such poise against the Trojans, and that performance made him a lot of money.

Omar Jacobs, Bowling Green
2005: 60.7 completion pct., 2,591 yards, 26 TDs
His numbers as a junior weren't as good as those in his sophomore season, but you can live with what he did. At Bowling Green, Jacobs played in a great system for a quarterback. He does have an unorthodox release, and that concerns me as to how effective he will be in the NFL. Vince Young has an unorthodox release, as well, but Young is a far superior athlete. Right now, Jacobs projects as a fifth-round pick.
Marcus Vick, Virginia Tech
2005: 61.2 completion pct., 2,393 yards, 17 TDs
He should have gone to a Division I-AA school next year and dominated. Then Vick could have played in all-star games and taken some momentum into the draft.
Right now, Vick is as cold as Young is hot. Vick didn't play well late in the season and didn't look good against Miami. He has off-field issues and can't play in all-star games. Vick needed another year, so right now I'd project him to go late in the draft or even go undrafted because of his latest problem. Now is the time of year to be acting like a model citizen, and Vick is doing anything but.

Running Back
Brian Calhoun, Wisconsin
2005: 1,636 rushing yards, 22 TD; 53 receptions, 571 yards
He transferred to Wisconsin from Colorado, and set the tone in the first game of the season that he was going to be a great player (263 yards, 5 TD vs. Bowling Green). He was a vital performer in the passing game as well. He's comfortable running through tacklers because he plays bigger than his size (5-10, 196). Toward the end of season all the pounding took its toll on Calhoun (rushing for less than 65 yards in three of his last four Big Ten games). Ultimately, Calhoun will be a second-round pick.
Maurice Drew, UCLA
2005: 914 yards, 13 TDs; 31 receptions, 453 yards; 28.5 yards per punt return
He's compact (5-7, 199) and has pretty good speed. Drew will be an all-purpose player in the NFL, not a primary ball carrier. He has powerful legs and a low center of gravity. If a team already has a featured back, Drew could be a very good complementary performer, and he could be a second- or third-round pick.
Tight End
Anthony Fasano, Notre Dame
2005: 47 receptions, 576 yards, 2 TDs
He was incorporated into the passing attack more in 2005. Fasano had more catches as a junior than in his first two years combined (45). He's not a threat to stretch the defense, but is good in short and intermediate areas. He's a reliable but not great blocker. Fasano should be an early second-round pick with a chance to move up to the first round depending on his workouts.

Offensive Line
Willie Hall, Middle Tennessee State (tackle)
He has good physical potential because he moves very well for his size (6-6, 310), but Hall could have used another year in college to put it all together. He showed flashes at times but is a work in progress from a technical standpoint. Hall should be an intriguing second-day possibility.

Derek Morris, North Carolina State (tackle)
I'm a little surprised he came out. Down the road, Morris could be a very good player because he has good size (6-5, 338). He was a bit up and down, and quicker pass-rushers got the best of him in 2005. He has a lot of skills, but I thought he needed another year to build on his consistency. Based on his physical skills, Morris is a late first-day or early second-day pick.

Defensive Line
John McCargo, NC State (defensive tackle)
2005: 24 tackles, 9 tackles for loss, 6 QB hurries
He's a very solid and reliable performer. A blue-collar player who is good at the point of attack. He was freed up a lot because he had Manny Lawson and Mario Williams on the outside and won't be afforded that luxury in the NFL. McCargo could go late in the third round or early in the fourth.

Stanley McClover, Auburn (Defensive End)
2005: 31 tackles, 13½ tackles for loss, 8 sacks
McClover could have been better and more consistent. There were several games this year where he was not a factor and didn't have any impact. His damage was done late in the year, and it was good to see him finish strong. McClover has good pass-rushing size (6-2, 250), and I could see him being an early second-day pick.

The Pac-10 Co-Defensive Player of the Year, Oregon's Haloti Ngata could be a first-round pick.
Haloti Ngata, Oregon (Defensive Tackle)
2005: 61 tackles, 9 tackles for loss, 3 sacks
He came to Oregon as the top defensive line prospect in the country and has recovered fully from a serious knee injury in 2003. Ngata was the Pac-10 Defensive Player of Year and was a huge presence. Not only is he difficult to move (6-4½, 338) but he gets a lot of penetration into the backfield. Ngata will go in the first round, but right now I'm not sure how high.
Linebacker
Kai Parham, Virginia
2005: 103 tackles, 14½ tackles for loss, 8½ sacks
He started all three years at Virginia. He has very good size (6-2½, 247) and is physical enough to take on interior linemen. Parham was used as a defensive end in some passing situations and led the team in sacks. He'll go late in the first day of the draft or early in the second.
Ernie Sims, Florida State
2005: 66 tackles, 9 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions
He has been one of the top linebackers in the country the last couple of years. He has exceptional closing speed and runs sideline to sideline very well. Sims is an electric hitter, but he needs to play under control and is undisciplined at times. If he plays within the structure of a scheme, Sims has a chance to be a really good player. Right now, he projects to go in the late stages of the first round.
Stephen Tulloch, NC State
2005: 134 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 6 sacks
He really had a great year and is one of the more underrated players in ACC. Tulloch made the most of playing behind two very good defensive linemen, Manny Lawson and Mario Williams, and led the Wolfpack in tackles. Tulloch should be a late first-day pick.

Cornerbacks
Charles Gordon, Kansas
2005: 21½ tackles, 2 INT, 3 pass breakups; 34 receptions, 313 yards, 2 TD at wide receiver
He has to define his true position in the NFL. Gordon did have some outstanding individual performances during the season but wasn't as dynamic throughout, and I thought he needed another year. As a result, he could be an early second-day pick.

Johnathan Joseph, South Carolina
2005: 55 tackles, 4 INT
An intriguing prospect because he has great speed. He missed most of the 2004 season with a foot injury but came back with a solid year in '05, leading the team in interceptions. Joseph is a decent tackler with good cover skills. Another year in school and he could have been a first-round pick, but now he's looking at the second round, no worse than the third.
Richard Marshall, Fresno State
2005: 78 tackles, 3 INT, 11 pass breakups
He didn't have a huge junior season. Marshall plays with a lot of confidence and relishes the challenge of defending top wide receivers; however, he needed another year at Fresno State. He could go in the fourth or fifth round, but could have gone higher had he returned to school.
Dee Webb, Florida
2005: 46 tackles, 1 INT, 13 pass breakups
He would have benefited from another season in college. He's a really good athlete but was up and down during the season. Webb has skills, but I'm sketchy on him right now, so we will have to see what he does in workouts. If he has good workouts, Webb is likely to go early in the second day of the draft.
Ashton Youboty, Ohio State
2005: 56 tackles, 1 INT, 9 pass breakups
As a sophomore, he was one of the better cornerbacks in the country. Youboty had a good but not great junior season. He was beaten in man coverage and struggled with ball recognition. He does have an impressive combination of size (6-0, 189) and recovery speed, and did play well late in the year. Because he has a ton of talent and likely will be a good workout player, Youboty will be a late first-rounder.
Safety
Ko Simpson, South Carolina
2005: 103 tackles, 9 pass breakups
Simpson is a third-year sophomore. He was an immediate difference maker as a freshman with six interceptions in 2004. Simpson led the Gamecocks in tackles in 2005. He's instinctive and has top-notch physical skills. Depending on workouts, Simpson is looking at being a first- or second-round pick."

what the panthers need the most is not a TE, but a RB. All those pass catching TE can't block anyway.

i like your Giants pick, Karim

and they do not need an OL

LB and CB will come first

not necessarily in that order

if it were me that is

its what we need...and has been mentioned repeatedly by coaches and writers alike

unless lendale white has a really bad combine or something (and even then i don't think he'll make it to the panthers), i don't think there's a running back in the draft thats worth taking that late. i agree they need one, but i still think shelton will take the reigns next year. he's the bruiser they need, and goings can be the change of pace back.

i don't know the panthers' cap situation, and i know 'spoon is a free agent, so if they can't resign him a LB is a possibility. basically i would just take the best available player at their spot

They probably only have cap space to sign either Foster or Witherspoon, and I think Foster is a higher priority right now. Thomas Davis will probably take Witherspoon's spot if he leaves.
