I'm sick of hearing about it in all sports.
Football-ref's fault Soccer-ref's fault Basketball-ref's fault Hockey-ref's fault
Not one damn play ever occurs without someone having a beef with it. So if you have a beef, please put it here and keep it out of the gameday threads so the rest of us can discuss run of play.
Thx. 6/19/2006 9:21:40 PM |

LOL...yeah, please don't put something about the game in the gameday thread. Are you people morons? LOL.
And, seriously, I hate bitching about refs. I don't expect perfection and a few missed calls here and there are to be expected.
But, there are some games when the refs completely decide the outcome. Games where teams can't overcome bad calls b/c their opponent is good.
And, unfortunately, sports involve a whole lot of money, and theres always the chance games can be fixed. I honestly don't think it happens very often and sure hope it doesn't. But I'm not naive enough to think it never happens.
Looking back, I think the Super Bowl was just horribly officiated rather than fixed. Looking back, I think last night's Mavs/Heat game was fixed, and the Mavs almost overcame the fix both in regulation and in OT.
If companies like Enron can cheat, then why can't the NBA? We see everyday the extent that sports are nowhere close to pure. 6/19/2006 9:45:32 PM |

the situation that happened today could EASILY be solved by taking the refs out of the equation. telemeter the puck and the net and let the computers sort it out. 6/19/2006 9:49:51 PM |

I agree that it should be part of the gameday thread.
BUT NOT FOR EVERY F***IN GAME!
But according to people that started watching hockey in the playoffs. Every single game the Canes have lost has been because of bad refs, even the 4-0 loss Saturday night. Think about it, if the Canes did not have biased refs against them, they would have finished the playoffs 16-0.
According to soccer fans that watched USA-Italy, the refs were biased for Italy (not to mention that when the same call was made against Italy, no one had any issue).
According to the Mavericks, they never called a timeout and the entire reason they lost last night was the refs. (Not to mention their missed clutch opportunities).
It's old.

Yeah, I understand what your saying. There is too much bitching about refs.
That game last night was really bad. Wade was having a horrible game shooting and decided he was just going to initiate contact the whole night. 3rd qtr was ridiculous. Both teams drove to the basket. Sometimes contact, sometimes none. Wade and Co. got every call, Mavs got none. 18 FT's for Heat in 3rd qtr. With about one minute to play, Heat committed FIRST FOUL. Thats pretty damn bad. Continued all the way to the last play where refs bailed Wade out. He missed layup and game would have been over.
So, at times like that, I have to bitch about refs.
But I'll agree theres too much bitching. 6/19/2006 9:59:38 PM |

What a joke of a statement. An blatant elbow the head is the same as a mistimed tackle? Get out of here with that. I can admit they blew some offsides calls for Italy and called some bad fouls on Italy too... but that ref was just bad, hence the complaints.6/19/2006 10:04:21 PM |

^ I'm not talking about the elbow.
My point about that game was that if an Italian player did Mastroeni's tackle and got a red card, all USA fans would say "serves the dirty bastard right" and would think it fully justified.
...and it also goes to the point that I've never read USA soccer fans (who are widely known to have massively large inferiority complexes) think once a ref was good or was not biased against them.

^ So you think sports fans should act like Carolina (Tarheel) fans?
(We win, if we don't, the ref screwed us over.)

^^ got it right... i've heard much more red complaining from NC State fans than i've heard from UNC fans... but they're guilty too, all sports fans are guilty... it just comes with the territory... nobody takes is that seriously... 6/20/2006 3:34:09 AM |

^ It's annoying though when every single play that goes against your team is because the refs are bad.
Can't it just be because your team sucks that day or night?
I half expected to see this post during Game 6:
"The Oilers are getting away with murder tonight! They're looking at Brind'Amour cross-eyed and the refs aren't doing a thing about it! It's obvious that the only reason we're losing by four goals is cause the refs are handing them the game."
Looking back at it, these were posted when we were getting destroyed by Edmonton in game 6.
Quote : | "the reffing makes this game impossible to win" |
Quote : | "Yeah well the officiating has been pretty one sided to this point.." |
Quote : | "yeah its easy to say that when the reffing is on your side" |
Quote : | "It's a competition between the Canes and the refs as to who can suck the most." |
Quote : | "Really I want the canes to win and the refs are really calling a one sided game." |
Quote : | "Yes we could have more shots if it wasn't for the really crappy refs" |
Quote : | "and It has been one sided reffing...although carolina has committed plenty of penalties...so has Edm but the refs ARE NOT calling them
nor have they called half of them all series" |
Quote : | "Damn you Oilers AND damn you refs...you made my little niece cry!" |
Quote : | "yup.....when we're in their zone, its old NHL rules......
but if a carolina player has his stick parallel to the ice, thats 2 minutes son" |
...and that was just one page.

Quote : | "Called either way? You are probably one of the few people to think that, it was obviously a dive... and even if somehow there was a foul involved, it certainly wasn't enough to justify a game changing penalty kick in a group deciding game in the World Cup." |
People always bitch about the refs, you're right... but that doesn't change the fact that sometimes officials make mistakes (which they definitely have alot in this World Cup). I can say that without being biased because I've noticed bad officiating in games that I don't care about the ending result.6/22/2006 3:32:22 PM |
