for the Republicans. His bad approval ratings, magnified tenfold and parrotted time and time again by the mainstream media swayed the middle voters to the democrats. the dems had no platform, they had no strong stances. they will be gone in 2008 when the voters see how ineffective and out of touch they are (not to mention, the time they'll waste attacking bush and passing horrible social reforms). the voters will see their true form now, and will overwhelmingly bring back true conservative leadership in 2008. there werent enough strong conservatives to provide a real alternative this time. hopefully, there will be next time. strong conservatives beat the do-nothing (or do-damage) liberals in 2008, its pretty much a given.

It's just the house, anyway. You'll get nothing done. Enjoy your short stay.

As a Republican I think this turn of events has been beneficial for the nation and the GOP. With a Republican in the White House the Dems can't pass their shit, and after losing the majority the Republicans are prevented from passing more shit. Of course, the budget is already almost balanced, so this course of events was not necessary.

Now I just need to learn to live with a ban on internet gambling, a war in Iraq, a wall being built at the border, and other such symbols of philosophical failures.

When 2008 rolls around hopefully the Republicans can keep a branch and the Dems will offer another "New Democrat" like Clinton.

Let's see what direction the Democrats go with the House in the next two years. If they do nice, popular bills and offer up some reasonable and rational alternatives to the status quo, then they'll be in a nice position for 2008. If they decide instead to extract vengeance upon the White House instead or go too far left with their policy proposals, then they'll only hurt themselves. With the Democrats being out of power for so long, I'm sure that their base is going to be itching for some radical change, so it's going to be a really interesting challenge to see if Pelosi can maintain party discipline and keep them focused on the upcoming presidental election.

It's a victory, but the base needs to realize that the Democratic Party is still too weak to pull off any radical change. Instead, they should simply view this as preparations for the big game in two years.

Whatever else happens:
"Schwarzenegger, a Republican, beat Democratic rival Phil Angelides, the incumbent state Treasurer, by a big lead, the results showed." It was a good day, even if he caved in to the state unions, at least he tried.

The unions absolutely destroyed him last year during the special elections. They spent over 100 million dollars dragging his name through the mud in order to keep the status quo and remain in power.

People are dumb, and predictably Arnold's approval rating dropped from around 70% to 30% in a few short months.

Schwartzeneggar did what he had to do and made peace, because the state employee union bosses are the most powerful people in California.

Hey, Cali has the 5th/4th largest economy in the world and low unemployment, status quo isn't so bad.

It's still a godawful place to live imo.

Big businesses are abandoning Califonia in droves, the schools and prisons are grossly overcrowded and dysfunctional, and a new health care scandal hits every month or so.

Nevertheless, state employees get big raises every year, and nothing ever gets fixed.

california is a good example of why unions are a hindrance to success and should be abolished for the sake of free markets.

i guess you missed it...

luigi gave me this name. he quit the wolf web and decided to give this name to me since it was already identified as such a staunch conservative. i've been posting under this since about November of last year. Before that, it was him. I'm a coworker of his.

what i say is what i believe. he might have been a parody, i am the real deal and there are people who agree with me all over.

i would have thought you would agree with what i said, but you decided to play this game instead. whatever.

No, all of Waluigi's stupid strawman arguments came to life in one gigantic troll of an alias.

You take the opposite viewpoint of everything Luigi says, and then proceed to make an ass of yourself with comments designed to make your viewpoint look stupid.

Ahahahaaaaahaaahahaa...See this is why I didn't hold you to leaving if the Pubs lose Congress. You provide a comic (albeit retarded) relief that is needed to ease the tension while us grown-ups discuss real issues. Go back to reading www.newsmax.com where I am sure someone is ready to give you a hug.

Yeah, how did picking up college-age chicks go, you dirty old man? [/creepy]

I should have expected just as much from you being the first apologist for the pwning the GOP recieved. Lest I remind you that not a single Democrat incumbant lost (at least from what CNN said).

We'll see what happens. I really hope the result is the GOP changing a bunch.

When you said "true conservative leadership", I kinda wish you were right. Maybe they'll put up somebody who's fiscally responsible, and socially liberal. You know, a Republican before the party got hijacked by fascist jesus freaks.

Whatever happened to the Goldwater Republicans?

Oh yeah, I voted a straight ticket for the Dems so that I could enact change on the GOP.

I love how everyone is like "WHAT HAPPENED TO THE _____________ REPUBLICANS! WELCOME THE RETURN OF THE _________ DEMOCRATS" when really both party has held every position imaginable over the last two hundred years.

I say we re-found the federalist party AMIRTE.

There are plenty of you. Hopefully you'll all either come into the Libertarian fold (and moderate the extremists) or the Repubs will finally get the memo.
