I had the opportunity to take an extremely vigorous spin behind the wheel of one of those back in 2003. Good power, nimble, good grip, great brakes. Lots of fun. Not as fast as my Z28 though, but it didn't seem to matter that much. Not sure how the driveline would hold up to my style of driving though. 1/16/2007 10:09:38 PM |

that, in my opinion, is the easiest variable in the performance car equation to fix (and particularly with a factory FI car)
and it'll be fine with my style of driving...i almost never launch a car from a standstill...i'm all about tearing up twisty pavement.

The max I've gotten out of my car has been 345 miles to a 14 gallon tank. I think on pure all highway, trying for mileage I MIGHT get 360.
Now, as for the EvoX. I'm slightly disappointed in the exterior of the car. It's got the same boy racer markings my car has, but on that car they look even more silly. Maybe its the fact that the car is red, and that color just hasn't matched the character of the car over the years and I'd definitely want to check out the Grey model before final judgement.
The interior, however, is PERFECT. Thats exactly how I would want the interior of my car. I don't think they could have come up with something better. However, the faux suede makes me think that the price tag of this car will be slightly higher then the 36k$ of the current MR. 1/17/2007 1:57:46 AM |

I see paddle shift... So it'll have stability management, active diffs, an automatic transmission, all wheel drive and at best a 60/40 weight dist. Why don't they go ahead and drive it for you too? Ahmet 1/17/2007 9:30:11 AM |

My first impression from seeing that is that I'll stick to the '03 Evo I've got now. It seems its going the way of the Eclipse and Mitsubishi is trying to see how ugly they can make it.
As for the fuel milage question above, for normal driving (i.e. not boosting before everyshift), I usually get around 300 or so miles out of a tank with mixed city/highway driving. If I try to stretch it, I can get 350 or so out of a tank on the highway. 1/17/2007 9:45:22 AM |

thats like saying, why did ferrari make anything after the F40...since its 'pure car' vs. the Enzo where every input you make goes through a computer for calculation.
I would call it...progression and advancement

i think Red is one of the best matched colors for the Evo VII - IX. But also I would say the same for White and Graphite Grey.

went to the local Subaru dealership today to test drive an STi.
had to ask 3 times to test drive it, and they finally agreed only as I was in my car, leaving to drive to Mobile to the next nearest Subaru dealership (they only let people test drive WRXs, saying "if you like the WRX, the STi is the same thing with more power and better handling, so you'll only like it better."
after we got back from the test drive, I gave them my name and number, and the next thing they wanted was my SSN. i told them that I wouldn't submit to a credit check until I'd decided for sure which car to buy (between the EVO and STi) and had talked pricing, and had pretty much made up my mind to make the purchase.
so, while i seriously doubt i'd be interested in a brand-new specimin, they had a nice, white leftover '06 model that I figured I'd feel them out on and see how much they'd drop the price. before they'd even make an initial offer, they wanted me to initial a statement on the paper where they had my name/address/phone number/etc (but no SSN!) stating that "I agree to ownship if agreeable terms are reached"j, or something VERY close to that effect. I asked the salesman, "So all this is saying is that if you give me a good enough price, I'll buy a car from you?", to which he said "Yep." I was like, "Well no shit...for the right price, I'll buy three of them!"
So, he comes back with an initial offer, and I said "Ok, let me take this home, think about it, crunch some numbers, etc. If I decide to get it, you'll be the first to know."
Well, as I'm leaving, the sales manager comes up and says "What will it take for us to sell you that STi today?" I said "Well, I'm not going to buy a car today." He then starts trying to put a guilt trip on me, saying stuff like "We let you test drive an STi! NOBODY gets to test drive the STi's!" I again tell him that I liked the car, but I'm not going home with any new car from his dealership or anywhere else today, tomorrow, or probably even next week, that it's a big decision that I'll have to take some time to think about.
at that point, he pulls out the paper where I'd initialed and says "So you were lying when you initialed this?" I said "No. I haven't told you that I won't buy a car from you. If we agree on the terms, I'll buy one, but it isn't going to be today." He's like "Oh, the salesman didn't tell you that this meant that you'd do it today?" I'm like "No, and I'm finished talking to you." I then told salesman (who happens to be the general manager's son) that he'd been great, but that his sales manager's tactics are not doing the dealership any favors. Then I left.

Driving impressions from the brief amount of time I spent in the seat:
Great power delivery. a little more punch than the EVO, with noticeably more grunt down low. doesn't surge as noticeably when the turbo spools. engine sounds fantastic.
chassis is stable, feels very composed around corners. steering is FAR slower than the EVO--doesn't have the same nimble, agile, lightning-quick responses.
brakes are fairly high effort (as are the EVO's).
I like the looks better than the EVO, and I'm a sucker for the flat-4's note.
however, I'm a sucker for the EVO's quick reflexes. that makes it the frontrunner for me, although I'd get an STi for the right price. 1/17/2007 4:48:46 PM |

^^i loved my 05 STi...it had great low end torque and i agree about the sound of a flat 4. But i find the Evo to be a much better 'overall' track car as far as handling, quick steering response and what not. No regrets for trading in the STi for an Evo (excet interior, but to be exact, HVAC controls and guage cluster) everyting else in the Evo is nicer IMO as far as seat comfort and simplicity. also the extra leg room in the back seats did it for me too with the fold down center console. 1/17/2007 6:11:00 PM |

I got a similar run around when I was looking over the summer. The guy at the Mitsubishi dealership on Capital kept dodging around anything resembling a ballpark figure until I'd start signing stuff which I wasn't going to do without him telling me at least something.
They had a black '06 Evo IX parked by the front door that had "Ask about our $1,000 off test drive offer!" written on the windshield. I ask him what sort of incentives they had on the Evo's and he says they never offer any. I asked him when I could test drive one, and he then tells me that they don't let anyone test drive them until they have been cleared to buy the car. I'm about ready to call bullshit on him at this point seeing how they have something written on a car I HAD to walk past to get in the front door that contradicts everything that he's telling me. But I gave him one more chance. Told him I was looking to trade in an '03 RSX with 45K miles and asked what I'd get in trade. He tells me he can't give me a ballpark on that until they can check the car out and we settle on terms for the Evo. I told him the car is outside and he can give it a quick once over if he wants so I can get an idea what my car is worth and he insists that we'd have to come to terms on the Evo first.
Needless to say, that was about the end of the conversation and I did not end up getting my car from him. 1/17/2007 6:11:28 PM |

^yeah, that shit is typical. especially if you look like a "kid just wanting to rag it out". when evos first came out, i drove to the one on capital wanting to test drive it. of course, i had no intention of buying it. i showed up in my truck. of course, they gave me the same runaround about signing bullshit, blah, blah. 2 days later i go back up to the same dealership in the nsx and talked to a different salesman. needless to say, within 15 minutes of chatting about the evo vs. nsx, i was taking a test drive. 1/18/2007 8:47:55 AM |
