Court records show Cruz was convicted in March of misdemeanor unauthorized use of conveyance of a vehicle and misdemeanor breaking and entering. He was also convicted of a DWI in February 2006. Keith Acree, a spokesman for the North Carolina Department of Correction, said Cruz had also been charged in October 2006 with resisting an officer and for possession of stolen goods in December 2006. Cruz was also wanted by the Department of Correction for probation violations, and was listed, as of Oct. 8 as an absconder."
