It wasn't *that* bad, not in a scary way. I had just had some suspicions that they weren't doing the job as well as their peers and had those suspicions confirmed by talking to other parents and people in the field. When I looked this person up on FB, it was pretty obvious why: a lot of work nights drinking and partying. It solidified my decision to request another person.

Your private time is your own, but you should understand that when you put your private life up for public review that there could be professional repercussions.

You also have to consider that you have the option not to make all of that information public. You can filter everything out so that only your friends see your pictures, status messages, and other information. You can even make it so that people can only see a limited amount of information. It does not exactly show a great deal of forethought, discretion, or sense of responsibility to not do that.

true, but once something gets on the internets it a) stays on the internets and is b) potentially public at any given time. so yes that's theoretically the responsible way to go, but if you really want to cover your tracks just don't make any in the first place.

i can see how bad reputation / suspicions by others coupled with the pictures could get you to change your mind. but WHAT IF (haha everyone is playing this with you now) they had an amazing reputation for doing a great job, were ahead of their peers, etc and then you saw the party pictures. would you still prefer someone else?

Like I have already said, if they had been doing a great job, it might not have mattered. I may not have ever even been curious enough to look them up on FB.

And in most situations, they could have been butt ass naked guzzling a fifth on the internet, but doing a great job with my son and I would have done no more than raise an eyebrow.
