How is that great? Any source of information geared toward 1 specific mindset is not great.

Let the confirmation bias continue!

I dislike Glenn Beck much less that the rest of Fox News. Could be worse.

He's less bigoted, and more paranoid. And those are values I can get behind.

^^ Including his stance on gay marriage?

It's one thing to voice a position among a comfortable community that all feel the same way. It is a completely different story to, not only be a contrarian in your own circle, but to actually risk damage to your career by holding the position that comes from your moral compass.

I frankly don't know much else about the guy. But just due to this one issue, he's earned mad respect that makes our consequence-free TSB discussions look petty.

he's against gay marriage, okay with some type of union or civil marriage though. his justification for this position is that its unconstitutional to change the formula for marriage-marriage (its not) and would just lead to polygamy.

i'm glad that his positional on gay marriage is more reasonable than some of his others, but i'm not going to praise the guy for it

I wonder if the southern republicans realize he's a mormon

I mean, mormons are back to being cultists, right?

^^ I understand that he believes two things:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/under-god/post/did-glenn-beck-just-back-gay-marriage/2012/12/12/c50a238a-43d8-11e2-9648-a2c323a991d6_blog.html

1. We should just simply get government out of marriage
2. The gays are out to limit free speech of churches

At worst, I see his views as an unnecessary escalation of the situation. Meaning, the conservatives are out to limit the freedom of gays, and vice versa. So we have no choice to call of the entire thing by getting government out of it. Overly paranoid? Perhaps.

I think any progressive should be able to come together with a conservative with these views and agree on a solution. Are there solutions he would endorse that your or I are not cool with (like civil unions)? Probably. But I think there are solutions he would endorse that progressives concerned with civil rights would as well.

^^^^ come together that the formula can't be changed because its not constitutional, the constitution is based on the bible, and gay marriage would lead to polygamy? No thanks.

Glen Beck's radio show is god damned hilarious. I don't care for most of his politics, but when he's not doing his Fox News schtick the guys brings the funny.

To be perfectly clear, it's not an uncommon conservative view that "gay activists" want to make it illegal for churches to refuse to marry gay people. It's true that Beck takes these theories to a new level, and I think he argues that progressivism is more-or-less trying to limit free speech. It certain happens in cases, but he thinks it's the central global conspiracy afoot.

I can tune people out relatively well when the vast majority of their argument is just characterizing someone else's argument. It's pointless to complain about the behavior, because then you'll be complaining about them complaining about someone complaining.

He is kind of funny on the radio in two ways. When he talks politics he's funny for being the colossal idiot he is. When he's doing more standard shock jock stuff, just jokes or call-in contests, etc, he's legitimately funny.
