Yeah, actually it really is. Butch Davis was the one that pretty much cleaned up Miami's image. He isn't some guy that is going to run a renegade program.

I know a guy that delivers pizza and he said Chuck used a coupon. Sounds like he must of got fired and is now having to clip coupons to save money.

haha . . . from http://www.footballrumormill.com for tuesday

Quote :
" N.C. State athletics director Lee Fowler says he will not talk about Amato's job. "I'm not going to get into any speculation about Chuck," Fowler said in an interview Monday. "I don't want to say anything about Coach Amato at this point. "I've been consistent in saying we will evaluate everything at the end of the season. The season ends Saturday.""

Quote :
"Expect NC State to fire head coach Chuck Amato. Former Georgia coach and NC State alum Jim Donnan looks to be the frontrunner. Donnan has won at every stop and would be a very good get for the Pack."

Quote :
"# Expect N.C. State soon to be in the market for a coach. My sources tell me the early focus will be on LSU offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher. I'm told he makes around $400,000 at LSU and has a three-year contract, so Fisher won't come cheap. Another source told me N.C. State will consider Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Norm Chow, a former Wolfpack assistant. And Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher, an N.C. State alum, always has his name thrown in the mix."

yet they say in other spots that Jimbo Fisher is gonna be the HC at North Texas and that he is going to be the next OC at FSU because he has family ties to Bowden

Quote :
"Jim Donnan was a college football coach and is now an on-air television analyst for college football games.

A Burlington, North Carolina native and graduate of North Carolina State University, Donnan was head football coach at Marshall University, where he led the Thundering Herd to a 64-21 record from 1990 to 1995, including five consecutive 11-plus win seasons and the 1992 NCAA Division I-AA national football championship. He was named the Division I-AA Coach of the Year twice.

Donnan was then the head football coach at the University of Georgia from 1996 to 2000. He compiled a 40-19 record during his tenure. He was the first football coach in school history to lead Bulldog teams to four consecutive Bowl victories. Under Donnan, the Bulldogs won the Outback Bowl in 1997, the Peach Bowl in 1998, the Outback Bowl in 1999, and the Oahu Bowl in 2000.

However, Donnan was fired by University President Michael F. Adams (against the wishes of athletic director Vince Dooley) in 2000 after the Bulldogs struggled to two consecutive 8-win seasons. His inability to return the program to the national prominence of the era of Dooley and to compete with longtime SEC Eastern division rivals such as Tennessee and Florida -- combined with certain off-the-field problems for players -- is believed to be the reason for his dismissal.

Prior to working as a head coach, he served as an assistant coach at several schools, including Kansas State University and Oklahoma University.

Donnan currently works as an analyst for ESPN and maintains a residence in Athens, Georgia."

Sounds good to me.

These are some sites with the most updated of stories regarding Chuck Amato's speculation of him being fired soon... (also provide links within stories and audio clips from the press conference that was ended shortly)

As for the rumors I would not doubt that something is going to happen by Sunday or Monday, but I won't believe anything until I see the press conference.

Donnan will never happen. Even though he is an alum, he hates State, used to coach at UNC and used some very negative recruiting against us.

Burned too many bridges says folks more knowledgeable than I.

Yeah Donnan did burn some bridges, he bitched, whined, and complained after the '91 Marshall game (he was the head coach at Marshall, probably one of the greatest comebacks for State ever) but he had his chance after MOC was fired and turned us down. Like I said, he's been out of coaching for awhile so I don't think he'd be a good choice.

Cutcliffe may not be a bad choice, he did ok at Ole Miss. I think Chow would be a fine choice as well.

Here's Cutcliffe's bio. Sounds pretty good.

it doesnt matter who we get. It'll be some second rate coach who will fail or it will some overhyped guy that everyone will love but will turn on when he starts to lose.

Fans have a tendency to turn on a mediocre coach. 5-6, 7-5 and probably soon to be 3-9 isn't the best way to keep a fanbase on your side.

UPDATED, NEW INFORMATION

Quote :
"“I’ve been around this university for a long, long time,” a former BOT member told the ACC Sports Journal. “I know the decision-makers, I know the trustees, and I know many other (N.C. State) people, and it is almost impossible to find anyone of influence who is standing in support of Chuck Amato right now. To my knowledge, among those folks, there is absolutely zero support for keeping him.”
"

Quote :
""At this point, only two people can save Chuck Amato — the chancellor (James Oblinger) and the athletic director (Lee Fowler). I can't speak for them, but I will be very, very surprised if (Amato) is still our coach next week.""

^ Haha, I hope so, I think at this point, moving forward and accepting a new coach is better than taking a step backwards and keeping the same one for another year b/c honestly, I don't think that NC State athletics can take a hit on the tickets sales if they were to bring Chuck back for another season...

My dad said the rumor on IC is that we've already hired Paul Johnson.

I'm not buying anything until I see an official announcement.
