"If we want to get to the final, what's really important is that we avoid Duke until Sunday. So that would mean either the 4 or 5 seed. We do not want the 3 seed. Best case scenario is we get the 4 seed, UNC gets the 3, and UVA drops down to 5. That way we play UVA, Miami, and then the winner of Duke/UNC. "

I don't think we'll be likely to be a 3 seed anyways. While it's possible, I just don't see us finishing 2-0 in the first scenario, or UVA dropping a home game vs. Maryland in the second scenario.

NC State will be the 3rd seed if:
1. NCSU wins out AND Virginia finishes 1-1 (or 0-2) AND UNC loses to Duke (or finishes 0-2)
2. NCSU finishes 1-1 AND Virginia finishes 0-2 AND UNC finishes 0-2

^^^ because this is the ACC, and the games have not been favorable for the visiting team

and because it's a team we have beaten and can beat again - and should beat, especially based on their shaky and unpredictable home record

it's what one calls a WTF loss

it would be so sweet to give Maryland their last ever ACC loss

^ That would be sweet, but I agree with some of the other posts that going through UVa and Miami would be better than going through Duke or UNC.

Plus playing Maryland at anytime in an important game usually does not go well for us.

Either way we just need to win and pray that UVa loses.

Are we talking about next year's ACC tourney? Or this one?

I'm confused.

If we get an 8 seed in the NCAAT, then I think Georgetown is our best shot of beating a 1 seed. Then again, they might be out for revenge from last year, but I definitely don't want any piece of the other 3.

But I really hope a strong presence in the ACCT pushes us up to 6 or 7.

I'd rather face Georgetown than Gonzaga

That said, I'd far rather face either of those teams than Louisville or Florida

I don't want to face any team with a tall, shot-blocking center. Dating back to last season, whenever we go against a guy who can block shots, Howell, Leslie and Brown freak the fuck out in the lane and start throwing up bricks. Obvious examples are our games against Maryland, Kansas and UNC when they had Henson.

Jerry Palm's latest bracket came out this morning

http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/bracketology

he's got us as an 8-seed, playing Missouri in the first round, and Gonzaga in the 2nd in Salt Lake City. I dont know if anything changed for us from the last bracket

If we cant win 3 or 4 more games and play our way to a six seed at least then I will take that draw over being a 7 and having to play some of the likely number 2 seeds.

[Edited on March 6, 2013 at 10:00 AM. Reason : A SDSU rematch from last year would be cool though]

yeah, I dont really mind our latest draw in Palm's bracket. Syracuse scares me, but a rematch against OKSt would be cool if we made it that far

^^^^^ That would be an excellent draw for us if we are gonna be an eight. I'd rather play Gonzaga in the second round than alot of the probable 2-3 seeds.

^^ You're assuming we'd be able to get past Missouri, which given our shittastic defense and Pressey's ability to go off, I don't think that's a safe assumption.

I still think we have the resume to be a 6 or 7 as long as we get a win or two in the ACCT.

It's been up-and-down. I'm a little disappointed in the job Gottfried has done in terms of coaching, but I certainly can't knock his recruiting. We're an exciting team to watch and we'll get our chance to put everything together in the ACC & NCAA tournaments. Plus we have a nice class coming in next year. Not the worst position to be in. We will take a step back next year, but we should be strong in '14-'15.

I'll hold off on making too many conclusions about Gott until he has a lineup full of players he recruited.

i'll go ahead and conclude that we could do much worse than MG.

We still have some games to go, and we've already got more wins in two consecutive seasons since the late 80s
(that was before our win against GT, I think).

I'm not that sure we'll be much worse next year. Just need more consistency from Purvis but we'll go a player deeper, and if McAdoo, Plumlee, and Len are gone I don't know that one of our 3 bigs can't hang in there

Freshmen anya and washington?

Vandy?

Yeah.. They can stand in and be a big. Who is a good big man in the acc next year? Just one of them needs to play at a time, I'm sure they won't be "good", but they can be "ok" with 4 other good players and get a rebound of two

[Edited on March 6, 2013 at 8:14 PM. Reason : I guess two will have to play a few minutes together]

We're probably losing 4 starters, and we have 3 untested freshmen coming in. Depth will probably be even more of an issue next year, unless the three freshman play as well as our freshman did this year (which has been great, for freshmen), and Vandy is effective, which sadly he hasn't been in his fourth year on the team (or CJL or Brown come back, which isn't likely, but possible). Oh yeah, we will have Turner, hopefully he'll be effective too.

whether they are ready or not, Washington and Anya are gonna play major minutes. More than likely, atleast one of them is gonna be a starter.

Duke is like 85% to beat UNC and we win a tie vs them.

The only thing we need to happen that shouldn't happen is Virginia losing another game.

or that time UVa's 33% FT shooter made 2 FTs

or that time Reggie supersize Johnson camped out on the key for a put back

or that time we let Len put back the game winning shot
