I really want to like this show but it is pretty awful. So many little things that they mess up that constantly have me just saying, "Really?"

I mean when Rick was taking out the walkers that were chasing the girl he had to grab a big rock and use that because he wanted to be quiet but then later he pulls out a pretty big knife that would have been much easier to use to take them out.

Even if he didn't it would be pretty stupid for any of them not to have a silent weapon on them at all times. There is no reason that at all times everyone shouldn't have at least one way to take out a walker in a way that doesn't make a bunch of noise.

Why did he drop his rifle anyhow? The butt of the rifle is a great blunt force weapon... I mean so what if he fell, shit soldiers fall down hills all the time and still retain their weapons. It's not like it was a steep hill to navigate.

And yes, I agree, the women are just plain annoying. I like how they all blamed rick for leaving the girl there, I mean shit... could he not find a rock and kill the zombies near the creek bed and stay near the girl?

And the kids need to learn how to use weapons... whats wrong with that idea? Kickass did it, why can't a 12 yr old kid kill some zombies too? I was really hoping that scene where rich's son was finding those weapons that he had to use one on the zombie when it came to life. I literally shouted at the tv and said "LAME!"

Even though this show is shitty and I have little interest in the story, I'm still gonna watch it for the zombies.

And they could have cut about 30 mins and still have the same story info... So much dead time throughout the first episode, no pun intended. I bet you could condense the whole episode in about 22 mins.

Some people are perfectly okay with average television. I know there are a few who don't fit this but it seems like the majority of people that like this show don't waste their time with the critically acclaimed shows like Mad Men and Breaking Bad. I mean you can just look at those shows' ratings to prove my point.

I don't know why gunzz thinks its funny that there are some people who are not content with flawed television and are disappointed when a show with potential doesn't do more to live up to it.

^^ That's as much an issue with your expectations as it is with the show. Everyone was drinking the AMC kool-aid before the premiere so people thought it was going to be GREAT and transcend it's genre. Now that kool-aid doesn't taste so great, and you're left with a decent show that does some things well and other things very poorly. Holding people to a standard of "every show you watch must be cerebral and brilliant" is a fruitless endeavor.

My disappointment comes from hearing so much great stuff about the source material and then watching something completely different and shitty. I feel like this show could be good and I haven't even read the graphic novel. I can't imagine how fans of that feel about this show that has completely abandoned what made it good.

I mean I do have to agree with you that there's lots of people who are on the AMC bandwagon; almost acting the same way apple cult fans act. But that'a whole different level of "liking the show". I think for the most part, and I'm just generalizing it, that most people find it "acceptable" as you said, but it could have been sooooo much better. I just like it cause its a prime-time show about zombies, but I'll bitch about it as well for not being the drama that it should have been from a station that is known for exceptional drama like breaking bad and mad men.

I donno about you, but I'm just surprised it even made it to season 2. Definitively filled with too much hype.

Well some people overlook the show's problems because they like zombies and that's cool if that's what you like. But I'm in it for the story (and yeah, partly because AMC says the story matters in their shows) and there are so many stupid things in this show like cruising around on a motorcycle when zombies are attracted to sound

At least you can navigate easily through tight places unlike cars and they get good gas mileage, but since his is a shitty ratted out chopper, probably not much more than a decent 4 banger.

I mean seriously... could they not have picked the worst on gas cars/vehicles to travel with in the show?

I was definitely on the AMC bandwagon as much as anyone else, I never denied that. My point is that people need to re-evaluate that in light of recent events. I think there are definitely problems with the show, but it seems like people are overreacting against it because it's on AMC.

the guy who wrote the comics (which I haven't read) is pretty involved with the show (he produces and has written some of the episodes)... so i mean, i can only assume he's content with it since I haven' seen anything about him being upset with it.

Overall, I like the show. I like the way it's shot, I like the pacing (I know some hate that aspect), I think the makeup is great for the most part, and I even like some of the corny dialogue. But they mess up some really easy stuff that, imo, detracts from what they do well. Some of the acting is very inconsistent. Some of the character development sucks.

That being said, there have really only been 7 episodes. Plenty of time to turn focus on what they do well and improve what they don't do well. And they have new show runner, so I'm not sure I'm giving those first 6 episode much stock compared to the next 12 in regard to the potential of the show in general.
