Since I've been a bum and only sit at the pool all day for the last 2 weeks + 1 more week I've gone through Moneyball, The Last Night of the Yankee Dynasty (Buster Olney), and I just started October '64 (David Halberstam)... I like them all so far..

I also like the one that Packbacker posted .. Four Corners: How UNC, NC State, Duke, and Wake Forest made North Carolina the Center of the Basketball Universe... and the Bill Simmons Sox book 'Now I Can Die in Peace'

I read Feinstein's "The Punch" recently. That book has been around a while, but I thought it was a good read. I never realized how unpopular the NBA was before the Magic/Bird days came along.

i read 'juiced,' 'game of shadows,' and 'love me, hate me' while i was at sea last month

they were pretty entertaining, i guess -- canseco wrote some funny stuff and barry bonds is an asshole

i really enjoyed 'a march to madness' (from the recommendations on here), and i want to read 'four corners' and 'tobacco road' but i keep forgetting to order them 'cause i can't find them in the bookstores out here...

It's not so much about game action as it is about the culture, stories, and tradition behind the scenes of soccer/football around the world

Somehow (and it does it well) the book addresses a good selection of some of history's more fascinating socioeconomic questions and answers them in the context of the game and some of its more famous faces and clubs
