QShack did not focus solely on N.C. BBQ. They did all sorts. And I like what Rudy says about Coopers considering that place has been in the same location since the '20s and everyone I know who was born and raised in Raleigh loves Coopers.

Q Shack was most definitely not eastern NC bbq, which is of course the best kind.

But as long as you weren't expecting that, it was quite good. Even without the sauce, smoked and pulled pork is still good eatin'. A little pricey, but not terrible. So I'm glad it's not gone, just revamped.

from the Q Shack website (on what types of bbq, etc)

Quote :
"Great "Q" comes from all over the United States and while each region may have its own local favorite recipe, The Q Shack is the one place where North Carolinians, Texans and even Mid-Westerners feel right at home with versions of their down home favorites. The secret lies in our own special recipes and our on-site barbecue pits, where all of our meats are slow cooked and smoked to perfection.

Dry rubbed ribs, chile rubbed beef brisket, smoked and pulled pork butt and the area's best mesquite smoked Chicken, Turkey and Sausage are freshly cooked all day long to allow our customers fresh barbecue every time. Even our near-famous Q Burgers are cooked to order from fresh ground, hand pounded meat patties.

Great meats are only half of the equation, though, as our own recipe spicy BBQ Beans and homemade Macaroni and Cheese have won over many a vegetarian heart and stomach..."

^ They've got that right(the vegetarian part at least).

Mmm, the side combo with mac and cheese, okra and potato salad is my favorite.

Without fueling the BBQ debate intentionally, I have always had AWESOME food at Qshack.

I look forward to Raleigh Joe's.
