No I think going out after winning the SB would have been the perfect finale. I don't see them repeating this year and unless they have a good offseason, they likely won't win next year which is when his contract expires.

it's not like i'm saying he'll never stop coaching the steelers. i'm saying he'll never coach here. maybe it's just that the steelers fans know their coach a little better than the average state fan.

how many times have super bowl-winning head coaches stepped DOWN to coach a college team with no prior NCAA head coaching experience? regardless of whether or not it's at their alma-mater.

i've already said i'll be surprised if he stays with the steelers for more than another 5 years. i will be shocked, however, if at any point from now until eternity, bill cowher becomes nc state's head coach.

and believe me, if cowher retires from the steelers, and then however many years later wants to come coach here, i'd be ecstatic, but it's just not going to happen. stop kidding yourselves.

I was searching around and found a Redskins message board saying he isn't signing an extension because he might step in and take over for Gibbs when he retires, haha.

But they said that he'll either be a Redskin, coaching at NC State, or just retired, so it apparently isn't as far-fetched as we think, even Washington fans believe it's a possibility.

A lot of coaches wouldn't return to the college level because of pride issues, they feel they are above it. I don't think Cowher is that type of guy, so I don't think he'd think it be-littling of his career to come and coach here.

I wouldn't have imagined Weis dropping down to the collegiate ranks when he could have likely found a HC job around the league, but he did.

he's just so young by coaching standards....i find it hard to believe that if he does indeed quit coaching in the pros, he will pull a madden and not ever coach again. He'll get the itch a few years after he leaves, and maybe, just maybe the stars will align......

but i would rather see the scenario where amato gets his ass in gear and quells any talk of this with a few great years.

It makes a bit sense, but seems like such a long shot.

No one has any real information really to make any type of judgment on if it'll happen or not, we are all just going to have to wait and let it pan out.

but rabid sports fans hate having to do that.

The dude won a superbowl.

I don't think pride plays into it.

I think the fact that our school doesn't have the balls, for starters, to fire Amato unless he really botches the situation up for Cowher means it won't happen.

If you don't think the school would drop Amato in a heartbeat for Cowher you're insane.

BUT, I don't think Cowher would LET us do that. Cowher and Amato are friends, so I don't think he'd be happy with us just firing Amato without a good reason(like back-to-back losing seasons).

Maybe Cowher could talk Amato into stepping down to his more natural position of DC, and let Cowher run things.

I'd just be happy with Cowher retiring to Raleigh and helping with the team when he wants to and helping us with recruiting, that would be enough for me, haha.

honestly, i don't think cowher would be one to leave pittsburgh and go to washington for more money. however, he will do everything he can to make it seem like this is not the case. cowher's contract is up in 2007, and yes there are rumors that gibbs will return to Nascar after 2007, so Snyder will probably be making a play for cowher.

holmgren just got a big extension from the seahawks, so cowher will obviously be asking for more money than what he got, although not much more. i don't think it's about the money as much as it's about the pride. he won the SB, so he should get more than the guy that lost...

cowher has mentioned the possibility of retirement and has bought a house in raleigh.

i believe all of these things will be used as bargaining chips in his contract extension talks with dan rooney. i don't think cowher is looking to empty rooney's wallet here, i think he just wants a fair salary, in comparison to the rest of the league, and is using any negotiation tactics necessary to ensure he gets it.

he loves the rooney's and the steelers, and unless they do something to change that, he will never leave them for another team. he may retire, and then decide to come back to coaching years later and fill a vacancy, but i don't see him jumping ship to coach another team a la herman edwards or something like that.

i think that when it's all said and done, cowher will end up signing a contract extension with the steelers. this is certainly what i hope will happen, but i'm making this prediction as objectively as i can based on the knowledge i have about cowher and the facts about the current situation.

i guess we'll see what happens.

This much is known. Back when we hired Chuck, Bill said he wouldn't come to Raleigh, because he wanted NC State to be his last job.

there is a possiblity he might take a position as a DC or something with less pressure than head coach.

i'm not saying it's going to happen, i'm not saying it isn't, but i don't understand what is so hard to believe about a very succesful nfl coach deciding he's set financially and going back to coach his alma mater as a sort of passion project, especially when his alma mater is so fucking bad.

i don't know bill cowher, i don't know his personality, but it doesn't seem ridiculous to me.

1. it will happen for all those reasons

2. it will not happen anytime soon because he's too young to leave the NFL

Is this actually documented anywhere? Or is it one of those internet rumors like Rick Barnes having a clause to opt out of his Texas contract for NC State? You know, the kind that gets repeated so many times that people think it's true.

rumor has it...and take it as a rumor... but supposedly Bill Cowher is now the motivational speaker for recruits and incoming freshmen for NC State Football.

again, no link, but lets hope that is correct.

If anyone else knows anything about this..please post
