Don't know what to think of this movie yet. In the preview he says the year is like 2012 yet he's using this year model mac and driving this years mustang.

Not saying I won't watch a movie based on that it just made me laugh.

Yeah, but you've got like a 4 to 5 year window there.

I'm sure they explain it in the movie.

I don't know what type of car he is driving, but it looks to be a high end sports car. I don't know how many high end sports car dealers there are in Manhattan so I'm pretty sure he is just taking what he can get.

Someone (FroshKiller, I think) told me to read this book a couple of years ago in the chit-chat zombie thread, but I put it off and forgot until the movie reminded me. So I go buy the book for marked up prices because now it's got Will Smith on the cover.

Halfway through reading it, all of the sudden there's all these new characters, in a new place, with a new plot. It honestly took me a couple of pages to realize that I Am Legend was just one story in this book, and not a very long one at that. I pored over every square millimeter of the book's exterior, no reference to it being a collection of short stories, nothing but talk about I Am Legend. I set the fucking thing on fire.

---

Sorry, had to get that out. Story was good, though the previews already show that the movie doesn't bear too strong a resemblance to it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one, it's partly because it's always called a novel which I always associate with an entire book. There are some gems after legend though, in fact "Prey" was the one of the stories in "Trilogy of Terror" and on the subject of Richard Matheson he wrote "Duel" with was Steven Spielberg's first (and in my opinion best) movie.

I've got a bad feeling that this movie will be just like one of Will's last movies - I, Robot. They will borrow the book's name, borrow some vague rule set at the begining of the book, then let the ad placements go wild.

What everyone seems to miss is the fact that the book came out in the 50s, this is the FOURTH adaptation to a movie, the last man on earth and the omega man we based off the same novel. Also, almost everyone I talk to thinks that this is based on the comic that was also based on the original book, but it's just a different adaptation.

yea it was pretty good. i dont want to say too much cause just about anything i say might spoil it, but i will say that i wish they'd used real people instead of cgi for the infected people. also, you remember in the mummy whenever the bad guy would yell, his mouth would open like 3 times more than it would normally? it was kinda neat cause it was the first time it had been done to my knowledge, and the bad guy was kinda supernatural, so you could accept this strange action. well in this, these people are just supposed to be diseased, not supernatural, and yet everytime one of these things are on screen, they use this stupid effect. way overdone.

that effect aside, everything else looks really good. i wanna know how they made nyc look so overgrown, and the animals looked really good too.

overall, i'd give it a B+, with a couple complaints that i wont share to avoid spoilers.

without giving away any spoilers, can you give like a 2-3 sentence plot summary? cause the previews all look pretty cool, but i watch them like "wow he's hunting a deer in manhattan, thats pretty cool, hmm wtf is going on?"

from imdb.com..

Quote :
"Robert Neville is a brilliant scientist, but even he could not contain the terrible virus that was unstoppable, incurable, and man-made. Somehow immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City and maybe the world. For three years, Neville has faithfully sent out daily radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there. But he is not alone. Mutant victims of the plague -- The Infected -- lurk in the shadows... watching Neville's every move... waiting for him to make a fatal mistake. Perhaps mankind's last, best hope, Neville is driven by only one remaining mission: to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood. But he knows he is outnumbered... and quickly running out of time."

I saw one of the trailers about a week ago where he has the mannequins placed at the convenience store to kinda interact with... then he is driving and one of them is in the middle of a street and it seems like his head moves ever so slightly... it was tense and freaky deaky I am psyched for this movie

yea basically neville refuses to leave because he knows he can cure it. he's got a lab in his basement where he works on rats and captured infected. during the day he basically just tries to survive, and at night, he tries to avoid being noticed. after 3 years, he's kinda crazy, but still workin on a cure...and then things kinda fall apart for him.

unfortunately it becomes hard to ignore about 3/4 of the way through the movie.

i know it sounds like i'm railin on it, but i did enjoy it. i just wish they had used that huge budget to make the infected look a little better.

After about 3 minutes on Rotten Tomatoes, it appears that Smith was great but the rest of the movie gets pretty suck near the end.

Considering how few people have read the novella it's based on, I'm confused as to why they felt like they had to depart so far from it. I mean it's not like the story has draw from it's big name or anything- if they're going to completely shit on the premise why bother keeping the name?

^ ah god dammit, the only reason i wanted to see it is b/c i liked the wikipedia summary of the ending of the novella.

when will directors stop and or really limit CGI use. I mean the old Jaws looks more real than the CGI shit these days

^Yeah that's true. The more I think about it, the original Jaws from I think the 70's looked damned realistic. You can say the same about the original Ninja Turtles movies too.
