The things I hope for:
1) Ability to tell your units what to target (Target the fucking carriers not the drones). aka priorities. Tanks, infantry, fliers... Nothing is more damaging when you're fighting against 2 opponents (people not computers) and watching your battleships go after a team of zealots instead of going to the primary target.
2) A alternative of attack on path. This is playing off my last statement above. Attack anything on the way to the primary target. Don't follow though. Just go where i tell you.
3) Stay in formation. That was a big problem for me where my shit would get spaced out and the only way to pull back together was to target htem and say go here. Which means they aren't attacking anything and it's a nightmare.
4) When units frozen they still respond to the ctrl assigned number. I know they can't move but I put them in a group for a reason.
5) Additional space for queing units. 10 instead of 5. That would be plenty. Or in the instance of carriers. a button that says build all fighters. And maybe another that would continue to build them if one was destroyed.
There's a certain level of multitasking I like but the above irked me a bit. 5/20/2007 5:28:52 PM |

If you had multiple carriers selected, clicking the "build drone" button would build them for all in the fleet that could build them.5/20/2007 10:38:08 PM |

Starcraft was great. All it needs is updated graphics, some UI improvments, and an improved and updated command and control structure. There is no sense in fucking with something that already works.

Quote : | "Speaking of secrets, what is your timeline for release for StarCraft 2?
It's a secret! I can give you the old Blizzard mantra of: "It'll ship when it's ready," but it's something that historically, we've learned to keep release dates really close to the vest. I think all game developers are extremely optimistic, and we used to give optimistic dates and we'd disappoint our fans when we didn't hit them. So now, I think we've just gotten more gun shy. The only thing I can give you [that's] concrete is it's not going to be this year. Some people were hoping, because of how advanced the game looks, that we'd have it out by Christmas, but that's definitely not happening. " |

^I don't know about that; at least they are decently honest.
Quote : | "Different companies have different philosophies on how long they spend on products. I think we…have smaller development teams than other companies in the industry, and that turns into longer development cycles. We’re very iterative in our approach to game development. We can really look at the game and make really big decisions on redoing whole aspects of the game.
“Warcraft III” as an example: About two years in, we overhauled a large portion of the game because we just felt like we were going in the wrong direction. We’re able to do that because we have smaller teams and we give ourselves time to iterate through the product. You see a lot of companies that are so focused on the release date that they put 100-person, 200-person teams together to hit that date, and at that point you’re really the runaway train. You have to hit that date and live with decisions that you might not have been 100 percent happy with. We take the opposite approach. " |
As an example of a deadline catastrophe (or at least, fiasco), I'd nominate KOTOR II. As far as a track record is concerned, I'd say Blizzard's system proves to be a winner by a fair margin. What was their last shitty game?

Oh and a rough translation from a Koren announcement went something like this.
Quote : | " The follow-up game to the online "Starcraft" looks to debut this July or August at the earliest.
Bruce Hack, a representative of Blizzard Entertainment's parent company Vivendi Games spent 6 days in Samsung Dong, Seoul at the Intercontinental Hotel and had a press conference. He announced, "We're in the last stages of developing SC2". Although Hack did not make any concrete statements about when the game will launch, it seems that once Activision and Vivendi Games close their merger in June, we are expecting SC2 to be released in July or August.
SC's follow-up game, SC2 is gorgeous with realistic images and already there is a lot of interest amongst gamers. Starcraft is a game developed by Blizzard Entertainment, a subsidiary company of Vivendi Games and has sold over 5 million CDs in Korea since 1998." |
July or August? HAH! 2009 maybe.
