That Craftsman Pro will fit the bill nicely. Seriously, you don't need to buy a Stihl, though I won't argue that they are an excellent machine. They ARE high dollar.

My Ryobi, like I said, is 10 years old and runs great. Ryobi is another one of MTD's brands, and while their cheap shit is both cheap and shit, the pro grade stuff is actually pretty good AND reasonably priced. Their 100 dollar specials are hunks of shit.

Best to get something with a genuine Walbro carburetor, as the Zama carbs are shit.

You don't have to go all out, but buying a Stihl or Echo or Shindaiwa does guarantee that you'll have a quality tool that will last longer and perform better. At the same time, you CAN find good quality stuff for homeowner use that's not as expensive.

ummm, yeah, i missed that part somewheres along the way. if that's the case then either buy something used or the $80 hunk of shit weedeater brand from walmart. when you're done with it sell it on c/l for $100.

i ended up getting the $120 craftsman before i read dan's post about the "pro" model, but i think it'll work out pretty well...it's the same engine as the first one dan linked to (the one with the brushcutter attachment, just without the attachment itself)...i figured i can take my cordless li-ion circular saw outside if i need to cut down anything that i can't weed whack or pull up with my bare hands

i really DO appreciate the feedback, guys...one day when i'm looking to invest in some decent equipment, i'll come back and y'all can tell me to pick up a 10-year old stihl

Cordless circular saw for yard work? How many fingers do you have? Do you plan on having 10 of them after you try this?

get a bow saw and some loppers to cut anything (not everything has to be a power tool)

it was meant to be a joke...albeit not a funny one

i have a pair of compound bypass loppers that can supposedly handle 3 inches...at the very least, it should handle 1.5 inches

if the loppers won't do, i have a bow saw i can use

and if THAT doesn't work, i'll rent a chainsaw
