Someone decorated the hell out of that tree next to the entrance with an ass load of lights.

As for the Hiberian, the food did suck and it was overcrowded and drinks overpriced. Still hate to see any bar that was not a shithole burn down and people lose their jobs. I assume they will rebuild?

the only thing i didn't like about hibernian was the layout of the place. it made it so hard to maneuver through it on crowded nights.

otherwise it used to be one of my favored places to start at on a big night out.

^ I heard that they completely revamped their food around late summer and it was actually pretty good. Never tried it myself.

This is why you should never try to order extra crispy wings. Bad things happen.

Glenwood actually does have a few good places, but its cool for some people to write off the whole strip b/c it's crowded enough as is.

Have food trailers hit R-Town, yet? They are amazing: Nice quality food minus the fake fancy ambiance = cheap and affordable quality food.

I work with one of the companies that was out working on the Hibernian today. Got to walk through it a bit. Took a couple of quick pics. Probably nothing you can't see on the news.

perhaps someone who worked in a restaurant kitchen can tell us how a grease fire gets that far out of hand?

I noticed a bit ago that the Hibernian relocated to Falls of Neuse up near 540, really close to my parents' house. Has anyone been there since it moved?

i went a couple weeks ago and got a porterhouse pork chop in a bed of grits with a fried egg on top. I was thoroughly impressed, with that being said, i'm not a foodie and it aint hard to impress me.

I don't think it "moved" per se. I think that was a new one they were planning on opening before the fire struck the downtown one.

"Hibernian begins reconstruction after fire
By Kathy Hanrahan

Posted: 21 minutes ago
RALEIGH, N.C. — Six months ago, when a fire destroyed Hibernian Pub on Glenwood South in Raleigh, owner Niall Hanley vowed to rebuild "bigger and better than ever." On Monday, they began that effort.

"It feels incredible to start making this kind of progress," Hanley said in a press release.

The location closed on Dec. 26 after what appeared to be a grease fire ripped through it.

The Glenwood South location will include the same "Irish charm as the original" but will have a new two-story layout and rooftop bar. It is expected to be complete by Christmas.

"Once again, I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every neighbor, friend and patron who has rallied around us in the past year,” Hanley said. “You’re the reason I love to call this city home. We can’t wait to be back and throw the biggest party Glenwood South has ever seen.”

Hibernian has two other locations - one in Cary and another in north Raleigh."

Hibernian FC is a Scottish team, yet Hibernian is an Irish bar. How does that make sense?

Take it up with the scottish people. Hibernian literally translates to "Irish"

The island of Ireland was previously called Hibernia. For your wiki reading pleasure:

Quote :
"Hibernia is the Classical Latin name for the island of Ireland. The name Hibernia was taken from Greek geographical accounts. During his exploration of northwest Europe (c. 320 BC), Pytheas of Massilia called the island Iérne (written ?????). In his book Geographia (c. 150 AD), Claudius Ptolemaeus ("Ptolemy") called the island Iouernía (written ???e???a, where "??"-ou stands for w). The Roman historian Tacitus, in his book Agricola (c. 98 AD), uses the name Hibernia."

As if it's really a true horror that some place should represent and serve a variety of cuisines and beverages from all of the British Isles. Plenty of Japanese places have some Chinese and Thai dishes on the menu and a chef from Vietnam, but nobody gives a shit...

sounds like someone's taking the opportunity to turn lemons into lemonade with the announced embiggening. My suspicions were also aroused at first glance, but it's also a relatively big gamble to sink that much in a building, and most people have an if-it-ain't-broke attitude in this economy.
