The offsides rule is different from soccer.

The main part of the rule is that a teammate can't be in the attacking zone if the puck doesn't go past the blue line. Basically, the person handling the puck has to be the first person to enter the attack zone...no one else can enter the zone beforehand. If you happen to be behind the whole defense...well, that's a breakaway.

To elaborate:

Basically, the puck has to be the first thing across the blue line. Anyone over the blue line before the puck is offside. There is one exception to this: if a player with the puck crosses the blue line before the puck while he is controlling it (say he spins off a defender and is skating backwards across the blue line) he is onside. If he doesn't have clear control of the puck in such a situation, he's off.

This year, if you are offside when the puck comes in, you can skate back and "tag" the blue line to be back on side. Once all the offensive players inside the zone have exited the zone, they can re-enter and touch the puck without being whistled offside.

Despite Forsland and Tracey going on and on about it, I really do think Ward is looking pretty good. I guess we'll see tonight, but I think the kid's got it

It's the Islanders first home game tonight. Their other game was on the road at Buffalo on Wednesday.

Could have something to do with baseball playoff games for those cities... big deals in both towns.

The people who own/can afford those seats never show up for games like these. The upper deck has a much higher attendance density, I'm sure.

On a side note, Matt Cullen just pwnt Kolzig.

Well, there's something they did not do the entire 2003-2004 season. Score 7 goals in a game (they scored 6 goals one time in 03-04).

I just got home from the game! It was great. Granted I missed the first because of class! Booo!!!

The power play looked better tonight. Cam looked great in goal. The guys seem to play with a ton of confidence with him in there! It was also good to see Nordgren get his first NHL goal! Staal is playing some awesome hockey! It's great! And we had 21 shots on goal in the third, it was crazy!!!

Go 'Canes!!!
