you mean like an OBD2 scanner app? that would be cool.
but still... if my pressure sensor is bad, then i would just see a bad reading on my phone for the same reason that my dummy light is activating, right?
whatever, moot point, small local shop is taking a look at it today. he also seemed pretty optimistic that is was a sensor issue. we'll see.
this just makes me want to sell the 'lude and buy another s13/s14 to daily. 240's are soooooo much easier to work on. 11/8/2013 10:06:11 AM |

Kind of. These apps (like Torque) will monitor whatever parameters you ask it to in real time. Just mount your phone on the dash and you have virtual gauges for oil temp, coolant temp, G force, etc etc.11/8/2013 10:13:13 AM |

Yeah so I wrecked my car on Monday. Spun at South Bend @ VIR going about 70 mph and hit a tire wall ass end first.
Might be totaled. Pics to come 11/13/2013 8:45:51 AM |

Umm, the insurance companies I've looked into in the past will pay the claim, but they'll also drop you and invite you to not be their customer anymore. 11/13/2013 9:23:41 AM |

^you're on FB all the time. Surprised you haven't seen the few pics I posted.
I took out a track day policy with Lockton Affinity for $30,850. I'm definitely covered. Just a question now of whether or not the car is totaled really. I destroyed the:
-rear bumper cover -rear trunk lid -rear unit body trunk area is pushed in -rear quarter panel, C&A pillar piece -passenger door -right side view mirror -fire damage to both front fenders -all plastic panels under the car and lower section of engine bay destroyed by fire -passenger side curtain airbag deployed -minor interior smoke damage
Car drives fine and I don't think there's any suspension damage but the alignment is way off and there's a slight vibration. I can't post pics from work but will later. 11/13/2013 9:37:13 AM |

^^ Damn man, hate to hear that but glad you're okay (and insured). Do you think cold tires were a factor, or was it partway through the session? I'm pondering trying to hit Road Atlanta or CMP in December, but cold weather isn't fun. I'm planning on doing a Lemons race at Barber in February, and that'll be cold too...
Did you have an instructor with you at the time?
What was the fire from? Exhaust contact with grass? 11/13/2013 10:16:21 AM |
TKE-Teg All American 43409 Posts user info edit post |
^^thanks.
^Well I was just using the OEM Michelin Primacy tires...which probably wasn't a great idea. I crashed on my 3rd lap of the 2nd session. Ambient air temp was around 50-55 at that point I think. Grass collected inbetween my wheel spokes and made contact with the brake rotors to cause the fire. Not surprising since my rotors were running close to 600°F when I took temp readings after my first session. The exhaust may have caused a fire as well, but hard to say.
Now time to play the "what car do I get if this car is totaled" game.

Thanks man. Honestly I think I'm better off if this is totaled. My brother was at the event with his bone stock 335i and he was considerably faster than me, even trapping around 15 mph faster on both straights. And this was his first HPDE.
Fuck this shit, time for a 335i coupe 11/13/2013 12:13:51 PM |

We all know some cars snap at the limit. My guess is the blower took away some of the balance of the car since it could now gain tire speed significantly faster than before especially on the primacy tires.
If it were me I would have probably been pushing the car as hard as I could because I'm competitive and wasn't happy with the lap times (especially if I had a sibling there egging me on)
What I'm saying is, I kid but I honestly don't think you are a bad driver. I've always wanted a track day car and now I'm thinking if you can put yours in the wall I'm certain I can. 11/14/2013 5:38:46 AM |

I appreciate that. And I was still beating my brother's lap times (measured using Harry's LapTimer) but that wasn't really it, haha. He was in the beginner group, I was running advanced (though admittedly probably should have been in intermediate with this organization). 11/14/2013 8:16:11 AM |

Yeah just straights.
If the car is totaled the deductible I'd have subtracted from the agreed value of the car $30850 would be 15%, so $4627.50. So then they would give me a check for $26,222.50. I still owe $16k on the car so I'd have roughly $10k in hand. 11/14/2013 11:24:06 AM |

ouch. a track day policy costs what, a few hundred bucks for just a day or two? then it only pays out 85%? Damn, it wouldn't take too many HPDEs of premium + the deductible of one claim for you to be in it for the amount of money you could buy a good dedicated track car for.
What you need is a towing-capable DD plus a track car. 11/14/2013 8:43:22 PM |
