yeah 22% for women is NOWHERE near average, unless by average you mean "that's how women should be".

according to this picture, at 22% a woman has the beginnings of ab definition, and that's such a tiny percentage of the population.

but also remember, that 2 people with very different appearances can have the same percent body fat, or conversely, 2 people with the same percent body fat can look very different, depending on body type. for example:

Women have approximately 9% more essential body fat than men.

So a man getting down to the bare minimum 3-4% is roughly equivalent to a women around to their bare minimum of 12% or so.

A woman at 22% is very lean. Beyond that they are basically looking at trying to lose "stubborn" body fat which is very difficult to do without weight training and very careful attention to diet. Fat loss is significantly harder for women than men anyway, and getting back below 22-25% just won't happen for 95% of women without commitment and women are terrible at committing themselves to things.

At 22% a guy is flat out overweight and he can lose fat just by not eating terribly. Abs start to show at 15% and that is about the point where fat loss becomes more difficult for men. To get below 10% they'll need weight lifting and extreme attention diet. They'll also have all kinds of hormonal issues that can cause erectile dysfunction, fatigue, strength loss, etc. It's not really recommended for most people.

WTF.

The fatties have won. There are so many of them that we have created a new normal and don't even know what the standard is anymore.

^^Actually, it's only in the last century or so that the feminine ideal has shifted towards a lean, athletic body type. The fatties haven't won and it isn't that we don't know what normal is anymore. Through out much of history there has been a preference for plush, curvaceous women. Just take a tour through art and you will see that feminine beauty has historically been quite different from our current ideals that run either towards model thin or sleek athleticism.

really? it doesn't make sense to you that, historically, being plumper (i'm not arguing jaba fat) indicated success and the ability to provide? or that curves (in the right places) are iconic examples of femininity?

It might indicate success in the fact that you can afford to buy food.

Women also didn't play sports and exercise back in the day. So yes...rich women were mostly plump and/or fat. It doesn't surprise me. And that no one painted pictures of poor, skinny girls.

Oh...and yes, curves in the right places are feminine...everyone loves nice tits and ass. Good job Sherlock.

After you wet your feet, get electrically insulating tongs and hold your penis and scrotum up so that they don't make erroneous contact with any other skin. But first you have to dehumidify your bathroom, maybe hook up an oscilloscope to your butt cheeks just for verification.

See the second pic in that post of mine and read what I wrote.

A woman with 30% could be a skinnyish woman with a protruding belly, or could be a kardashian with fat uniformly distributed and especially deposited on the bottom and boobs.

the 30% picture above (kim kardashian) is fat and would havebeen considered even fatter before "society today". hell, your grandma wore drop waist dresses and wanted to be a no-boobed stick (flapper ideal)

this idea that ideals have changed recently is irrelevant and incorrect.

Marilyn Monroe:
Quote :
"How this myth got started isn’t exactly known. One possible contributing factor to this myth was Marilyn Monroe’s atypical extreme hour glass shape. More directly, it probably partially stems from the fact that women’s sizes today are not at all equivalent to women’s sizes in the 1950s. In the 1980s, in order to accommodate people’s vanity and ever expanding girth, the U.S. Department of Commerce got rid of the uniform sizing system and instead allowed for more ego stroking sizes. As a result of this, today, a size 8 would have been roughly equivalent to a size 16-18 in the 1950s, obviously though this varies a shocking amount from brand to brand.

Quote :
"Those measurements were 5 ft. 5.5 inches tall; 35 inch bust; 22 inch waist (approximately 2-3 inches less than the average American woman in the 1950s and 12 inches less than average today); and 35 inch hips, with a bra size of 36D. Her weight fluctuated a bit through her career, usually rising in times of depression and falling back to her normal thereafter, but her dressmaker listed her as 118 pounds and the Hollywood studios tended to list her between 115-120 lbs.

Quote :
"As a direct example of her size, the white dress she wore in The Seven Year Itch was recently auctioned off and was put on a mannequin that was a size 2, but they were still unable to zip up the dress as the mannequin was too big.

^^not for most women, no. and she was still skinny by today's standard, certainly skinnier than kim kardashian (who is fat)

It's not rocket surgery. As our country gets rapidly and dramatically fatter, the average (be it mean or median) moves, and the scale slides.

People who would have been considered fat 20, 30, 40 years ago are considered normal. People who would have been viewed as absolute whales back then are commonplace now.

If you look at models and sex symbols in society, I don't know that there has been a dramatic shift, but if you are talking about what most people view as attractive, the upper limit has moved dramatically (and the lower limit has probably crept up some).

And for Bettie Page (who was famous because of her erotic and fetish photography and nude work, not because she was an ideal of attractiveness) had the following measurements:
Quote :
"Measurements Bust: 36 in (91 cm)
Waist: 23 in (58 cm)
Hips: 35 in (89 cm)
Height 5 ft 5 in (1.65 m)[1]"

and her weight was probably upper 120's

In my opinion, thin--and even perhaps skinny--is actually the egalitarian ideal. Many women are not born with ideal proportions, but we can all be thin. So if thin = beautiful, then everybody has a shot at being "beautiful," and in the United States especially, we value the notion that you can be anything you want to be. In some countries, they're a little more fatalistic about matters, like intelligence, class, beauty...you're born with these things or not, and you just accept it. But here we like to believe that you can be/do anything with hard work. If the ideal is Kim Kardashian, then a good 90% of us are fucked; but if the ideal is thin, then we can all be pretty!!! Yay! American dream for everybody!

I'm not sure I would look very good if I were thin. I have wide set hips and a huge rib cage. I already have a disproportionately small waist compared to the rest of my body. I can't imagine what I would look like skinny. I would guess I'm somewhere between 30-35% with most of that lying in my ass and thighs.

I think we should all stop caring about what other people think is the ideal woman. Every single guy has his own personal taste and so instead of arguing about it on the internet why not go find one you think is hot and bang and/or marry her.
