i have a lap top thats broken and would have cost me like $1000 to fix....its a compaq, i dont know what PI or PII mean...and i cant remember what the problem was

you didn't answer me. i was serious about the inverter. actually i've got a whole display from an HP pavilion laptop. the screen is cracked. the inverter, hinges, bezel, attachment cables, and backlight (i was told the backlight can be recovered and used, but i wouldn't have a clue how) are all in good condition.

I'm guessing that you are looking for someone stupid to sell you an awesome laptop that they think it broken when actuality it is only a cable loose or something, for dirt cheap. I hope there is no one that stupid, and it looks like there isn't.

its funny you say that, someone wanted to sell me an ispiron with an intermittent monitor issue last week. instead of offering to buy it i pointed them to the online service manuals and told them to check the LCD connecter.

so yes, your pessimistic guess is wrong. continue assuming the worst about people, it'll serve you well.

I have an Inspiron 8000 that is atleast a P2 maybe 3, 512mb of ram, 1gig processor, fixed DVD, removable CDRW and Floppy. What i think is wrong with it is the hardrive is busted, It doesnt boot up at all.

I'm posting for a friend who has an old laptop with some major software issues... spyware, etc. She basically just can't deal with fixing it right now. Here's what I know, let me know if you're interested and a rough $ amt you'd pay if you are.
It runs (I don't think this is an upgrade) Windows 98, Compaq Presario, missing battery but has a cord, she said it doesn't have much RAM. Condition is good, I think it would be really salvageable if you wiped it clean.
