what pisses me off is that all these WoW kiddies actually think its Role-playing.

In the true essence of Role-Playing, one doesn't really care about running around in dungeons finding "cool shit".

Its more about the character you create and the story you tell with the character. My favorite role playing experiences were with DM's that knew how to create more than tavern fights and random monster encounters. They created worlds with realistic people, all with different motivations, political aspirations, you name it. Not everyone of the "entities" running around in the world was after the +4 vorpal sword of cleaving like they are with all these "click click" role playing "games".

its got enough character interaction and involvment in the characters ultimate outcome to be considered 'role playing'

all I care about is something i can play with friends and build a character that I find entertaining.

not to mention its blizzard

Hell I got a lvl 40 character and still have a wife, child I play with as often as I can, and a 50+ hour a week job.

So yea, doesn't take 50 billion hours a day to get good. Hell I do a lot of soloing just farting around on my own right now.

"Next question: Why play anything else when you can play a rogue?"

I dunno about that, but starting every character as a Rogue is damn tempting. All those skill points...

Depends on the character in question. Some would be very interested in treasure. A big ol' magic sword can have plot significance, you know. But I basically agree with you.

And screw WoW. I waste my hours playing MoM.

I'm far too important, influential, talented, and respected to ever consider myself anything less.

And the 4th edition completely changed my mind on this point. I loved playing a fighter in 4E. A couple of old posts of mine from RPGnet along those lines:

Quote :
"I am playing a 15th-level human fighter, i.e. the best character possible. I have taken him down the adroit explorer paragon path, which is the human racial paragon path and therefore the best paragon path possible.

He has two uses per encounter of come and get it, which is one of the best encounter powers in the game (surpassed only by humans' heroic effort). He pulls monsters like a motherfucker.

Not that I have to explain shit, being a human and a fighter, but sometimes it pleases me to describe his enemies rushing forward for some false advantage or losing their shit over a well timed insult.

You mad, casters? Then multiclass martial, you broke bitches."

Quote :
"I love playing a fighter, because the defender role makes me feel like I'm playing street ball or something. There's something very rewarding about being flat-out superior in melee combat in ways that transcend attack & defense bonuses.

Oh, you thought you were gonna attack my boy? MARKED.

Trying to get around my choke point? Opportunity attack. STOPPED.

What, you forgot I had tide of iron? PUSHED.

Y'all ain't got stances in your dungeon, do you? RAIN OF STEEL.

I'm hard to hit. I can use just about any armor or weapon I find up in your decrepit-ass tower. I regenerate, son--you can't drop me. What's up, DM? You takin' this personally? You can't ignore me. Where them ogres at? Where them pseudodragons at? Where your phylactery at?

When I roll a critical hit, it is like slam dunking. BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAOW!"
