So to say the "energy it collected", without giving a time unit, would run a car for 20 minutes is quite possibly the most assinine thing I have heard in awhile." |
god dammit typea, you too, if you dont know what the hell you're talking about, then just stfu
batteries cannot store infinate amounts of energy, so yes, the is no limit to how long you let it charge, its not gonna last long before it runs out of juice
100w m^2 * 15% effeiciency * 9 m^2= 135 watts
12v x 60a= 720 watts 12v x xa= 135 watts 11.25a
your battery is losing 48.75 a/h at highway speed with a 9m^2 solar panel, doesnt take a genious to figure out that aint gonna run long7/21/2005 4:00:56 PM |

As a former #1 garage idiot, I'm going to have to agree with TypeA that hassling with motor mounts is a pain in the ass when one is just trying to change spark plugs
I've changed plugs on my 7, on several inline 4 cylinders (Corollas and the like), and a transversely mounted V6 (6g72). Pulling an intake plenum off just for rear plugs is a hassle, but a Northstar Cadillac has got to be worse.

But to me it seems pretty pointless to dump all that money in a neon when you can get a beater body, strip it and make it light, spend a nice sum of money on classic v8 (add nitrous if you want), put some big slicks on it, and go out and run 8s. Sure you don't get that little ego boost from beating some guy on the street, but I would rather run 8s than 11s. About the only thing that the street car wins over the non street legal drag car (in regards to speed) is you are stuck doing 1/4s in the drag car.

OK, WHICH ONE OF YOU FUCKING IDIOTS HAS ACTUALLY CHANGED PLUGS ON A NORTHSTAR, OR ANY OTHER GM FWD MOTOR THAT USES THE SAME PROCEDURE??? what? neither of you? that's what i thought. it's pretty damn bad when you make statements like that in a thread like this7/21/2005 4:32:01 PM |

I gotta agree with Ivan on this one. It's nothing to fuck with engine mounts. Just about everybody with a '90's model GM car with a 3.1/3.4 HAS to take an engine mount loose to change a serp belt.
There's nothing quite so easy as removing a torque strut on a GM car to rock the engine forward. Hell, on a lot of 'em, it makes taking that last bellhousing bolt between the engine and the tranny that much easier.
I've put engines in tons of vehicles (don't have much Northstar experience, more 4.1/4.5/4.9 experience) and so what? 7/21/2005 6:50:24 PM |
