i've decided

of course we're to fucking blame...

10 years ago most of the vehicles on the road were still cars...

in the last 10 years we've gone from probably around 25% trucks and suvs to between 50 and 60% trucks and suvs...

you can't have that kind of a drastic drop in fuel mileage without expecting drastic increases in the price of gas...

Maybe the number of motorists is up by 1.4% from last year? What's our population reaching driving age growth over the past year? I'm too lazy to look it up.

Hell, who cares.

SUV SALES CONTINUE TO GROW

you wanna look up some facts
see which is growing faster

the price per barrell
or
the number of explorers sold thanks to "ford employee pricing"

Wow, thanks for not even giving my suggestion any consideration, save for it being a stepping stone for your own all-caps idea.

I don't like SUVs one bit. But I'd also like to explore the possibility that maybe there are more dirvers these days. Especially with illegal immigration the way it is.

Do you guys REALLY believe that SUVs are to blame for these gas prices? Have you even been paying attention to the extent to which China is ramping up its oil consumption?

you mean the same way that america's love affair with suvs is ramping up our consumption

i'm very willing to discuss china in another thread

this thread is about the fact that despite the rising and scary price of fuel
demand is still rising

i'd rather talk about mr. more drivers than mr. china

SUVs are a red herring.

A lot of factors go into the increase in demand including a larger number of drivers, longer commutes due to urban sprawl, etc. Attributing it solely to SUVs is simply fallacious.

You can add an increase in SUVs there, assuming SUV sales have also increased since a year ago, but I don't know if that is true or not.

IF YOU'RE GOING TO POST GAS STASTICS AND CLAIM PRICES AREN'T HIGH

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR SHIT DOESN'T END IN 2004.

CAUSE I JUST FILLED UP MY TANK AT 2.35$ A GALLON

AND THAT SHIT AINT CHEAP.

Something doesn't sound right...

I guess a better adjustment would be the ratio of monthly wage spent on gas.

I mean I don't think the minimum wages have ever been inflation adjusted.

Well, the per-capita income in 1980 was $12,276. In 2002 it was $36,340.

So, if in 1980 the price of a gallon of gasoline broke $1, to be comparable today it must be above $3 a gallon.

Don't get us wrong, the price of a gallon of gasoline, inflation adjusted, was far less in 1998 than it is today. So, over the short term of the past seven years the price of gasoline has gone up almost 2.5 fold. The trick is, from 1980 to 1998 it fell over three fold.

So, if you are too young to remember life before 1998, then from your sheltered perspective todays gas prices are outragious.

YOU KNOW HOW TO ARGUE WITH ALL THIS INFLATION SHIT

COLLEGE KID INCOME

I DONT FUCKING CARE IF SOME ASSHOLE WHO MADE 12000$ TEN YEARS AGO PAYED THE SAME FOR GAS AS I DO

FUCK

I DON'T EVEN MAKE 12000$.

MAKING $12000 A YEAR AND PAYING 3.00$ A GALLON FOR GAS WOULD BE A BIG FUCKING IMPROVEMENT OVER MY CURRENT SITUATION.

CHAMP.
