Marriage is defined as the union of a man and woman UNDER GOD. Add in religious zealots in the government and Marriage will NEVER be used to define a union of a man and a woman. The other side of the coin is that gays/lesbians keep fighting to use the word marriage for some stupid fucking reason.

The new fight is to call it a Union. It would be recognized by the government for tax reasons and give the couple all the rights hereto of it. However, this isn't getting too much push because the over zealous gays/lesbians want it called marriage in writing so you have a deadlock.

^b/c we are foolish enough to use the same term, marriage, for civil and religious unions when in fact two distinct recognitions/ceremonies are taking place. Nope, there is a judicially created "public policy exception" to the Full Faith and Credit Clause which allows states to assert their own strongly held public policy ideas as against acts of other states.
