This is where i think discourse between economically conservative and liberal people breaks down; the arguments stem from two separate axioms. the economically conservative generally define "prosperity" as the individual's ability to achieve greater wealth ($30/hr vs. $5.15/hr). the economically liberal generally define "prosperity" as the overall economic strength of the general public.

not saying that either is right or wrong, just that views about sound economic policy will differ according to how one defines prosperity.
