Hey guys I picked up a sweet new beater on Saturday. It's a 1989 Toyota Supra nonturbo. Engine was rebuilt about 5k ago. I bought it for $200, plus I had to get someone to put in a new starter and clutch master cylinder before I picked it up in Pennsylvania. Total cost: $520. Actually, a friend and I split on the car so we both have something to drive in case our daily drivers go down for whatever reason.

The car drives really well. The motor feels strong and the transmission shifts smoothly. The interior is falling apart though... the previous owner had stripped the headliner and everything behind the two front seats. The heater and A/C don't work (could be the climate control panel), the tilt steering is fucked, and the cruise control just broke. But it has nifty power seats with adjustable lateral and lumbar support. The power window still kinda work too... barely. Still, for $200...

This makes me miss my N/A MK3... It's sitting at home rotting in my backyard. Need money to get it going again.

^ Nope. My buddy's friend from highschool lived up there and had this car. It broke down right before he moved back to NC so he just needed to get rid of it since he plans on getting another car. That's why he sold it to us for $200 when it could probably be parted out for several times that with the rebuilt motor and everything. We sent some money up to get somebody to fix the starter and clutch master cylinder so that we could just drive it back.

I literally just brought the car on campus yesterday, so you must have mistaken some other beater Mk III. As for the cruise control, well I don't want to stress about fixing anything on this car. That's the point of having a beater. I'd like it to work but I've got 18 credits this semester and I don't have the time to mess with anything. The only thing we're going to do to it is put a muffler on there and my friend is talking about spray painting it flat black.

The real point of buying this car was making sure that we both have something to drive in a pinch. Insurance is only $40/month for liability, split two ways. $20/month for piece of mind sounds like a good deal to me.

I'm picking up my 7 later this week so I won't be spending too much time in the Supra. A friend of is putting in a new clutch for me as I was getting tired of the 4 puck, especially since it sheared my differential mount in half at the drag strip...
