another reason i'm curious about fiber is that i'm gonna detox for a week or 2 and see how it goes so i figure with more fiber i can flush out some toxins and shit

fiber makes it solid. i had a stomach virus a month back and they told me to eat 2-3 bowls of high fiber cereal everyday till my "stools" became bound up or more firm.

Don't introduce 100% of your fiber RDA at once or your body will not like you. ;p

Insoluble fiber will make your poop runny. It can't be digested and will pass through your system moving other foods with it.

If you want to firm it up, eat cheese (unless you are lactose intolerant), peanut butter, or lots of meat.

^^^With all your health problems, a little detox might be a good change for your lifestyle.

^^No. Insoluble fiber is insoluble in water. Makes your poop stiff. Soluble fiber dissolves in water to make a gelatinous like poop.

yeah because getting magical "toxins" out of my system by shitting a lot could have prevented a mass in my neck, or stopped me from getting mono, or prevent a sinus infection

your gi tract is going to be hurting for a while until it's used to the extra fiber. try kashi crunch cereal (actually taste good compared to the cat food that is regular kashi)

you shouldn't be eating 21 grams of fiber at one sitting, unless you are an exception and your body is used to it.

^^ i told you!

on a 3 meal a day diet:

up to 10 grams fiber/meal, + 5-10 grams fiber from healthy snacks

on a 6 meal a day diet:

up to 6 grams fiber/meal (you won't feel the need for snacking on such a diet)

indigestible fiber provides bulk in your intestine. this bulk creates pressure on the intestinal wall stimulating peristalsis, which moves everything along a bit faster (not diarrhea). hard stools are the result of a slow intestine which causes more water to be absorbed.

fiber is a good thing.

oatmeal is soluble fiber (like a gel). wheat bran is insoluble.

Hey drunknloaded, way to get a whole bunch of people to follow your bowel movements over the course of a few months. Truly brilliant. To the rest of you, I hope you look back on the Fall semester of 2005 with regret.
