Great game, though the crime reporting needed dubbed down a lot.

The crime isses were much improved from Daggerfall.

Some of the game's still unbalanced, though. i.e., it's very easy to raise your stealth skill. Once you have a high stealth + telekinesis, you can steal anything--meaning I got a full set of glass armor pretty early.

My favorite thing to do was to bust into people's houses

and kill them.

Then take their shit.

And sell it.

Then kill the dude I sold the shit to.

I decimated entire towns this way.

What is good about the new morrowind coming out?
And will I feel overwhelmed playing it having only seen the begining of the first one?

Yeah, I can still remember one particular experience I had in Daggerfall. I was in this little town--there were just a few houses, and maybe 10 people in the entire town. I pickpocketed one, he noticed me, and a guard started coming after me. My character was pretty damn strong, so I decided to just kill the guard. Suddenly a couple more are coming after me.

By the time it was over, the whole place was just littered with bodies--an entire army came after me just to arrest a friggin' pickpocket.

No, each of the games stands on their own. If by "first one," you mean Morrowind, then that means you never played Arena or Daggerfall and it doesn't sound like you had a problem adjusting.

why don't you consider that the entire army came after you killed a soldier? I think you'd see pretty much the same response from any police dept. in the nation, if, after having committed a petty crime, you killed the arresting officer

Yeah, that's one way to look at it.

What I found annoying, though, was that all of those soldiers showed up in the first place. This wasn't a city. There were no guards around when I was checking out the town. They just magically appeared because I had committed a crime. And then more of them magically appeared.

I mean, yeah, I guess it's kind of stupid to talk about "realism" in a game that actually uses magic.

its not magic, its that they had a more firm grasp of chemistry and physics than we do now

Morrowind (The last one) was a friggin' blast. But its just SO big that I even now play it some and have still probably not gotten through half the game yet.

After a while it gets kinda slow and boring. Thats the only problem I have with the game. Plus in some ways its starting to show its age (particularly how the characters move around compared to modern RPG's like WoW, etc.

Still a great game that I have blown shitloads of time on and don't think that I got halfway thru.

When I steal something, if someone sees me, I want to whack them. However, ppl magically know that you not only stole but also killed. If I take care of witnesses, I want my slate clean.

i liked morrowind, but not enought o play it a second time. the endless wandering at times got me and how long it to get places. i appreicate the realness of that, but it was still annoying to me.

Glass armor overpowering? Hell, if you work enchantments right you can be far more overpowering (especially once you have the Azure Star (unlimited uses and highest level enchantment stone).

Morrowind was amazing. Never have I seen a deeper game... definitely not one with longer gameplay.

I can't wait to see Oblivion (especially after some of the writeups I read around E3). I remember one talking about how deep the NPC AI was. Totally unscripted "life" for them. Like if you steal all of someone's food they have to go to the market. One write up talked about how this lady was sitting outside her house and there was a dog sitting there. She gave it a piece of meat (which has buff properties) so the dog got amped up and started running around and barking. She became annoyed by the dog (I think it said she wanted to take a nap) so she used a flame spell to kill the dog. Also, people are no longer up and doing their same task 24 hours a day like in Morrowind. Another interesting thing is that melee combat uses real collision combat. SO when you swing your sword it has to make contact to do any damage and how and where it hits (armor, padded clothing, flesh?) determines the damage.

we'll see about that. hyped up games usually deliver on roughly 50% of what's given. Fable was a victim of that.

I've never played it but it sounds just like a 3D version of Ultima Online that came out in like 96. Except for the whole not online thing. Why dont they just make mounts to ride? That would make the world seem smaller I quess, but would sure take a bite out of the monotaneous walking factor.

You don't have to walk everywhere. You can warp via the Magic Guild, or you can catch a ride from town-to-town on the silt striders.

And yeah, it's sort of similar to a MMORPG...just for a single player. The rest of the world is simulated. Each game in the series has gotten progressively better at creating a huge, believable world.

i really liked morrowind, except for the fact that it took FOREVER to walk anywhere. even when i cheated and changed the walking speed to make the guy walk super fast, there was still too much walking.

oh yeah i hated how crimes that no one could see would still get reported. i was all about stealing and killing people

I am a person that rarely ever buys a strategy guide, or game guide. But it seems to me that you would have to have one to find kewl shit.

I beat the game twice with the guide, then I sold it.

Then I bought the GOTY edition (with Bloodmoon and Mournhold editions) and beat it twice with the guide, then I sold it.

Then I bought it, played it, then sold it (after getting bored with it).

I can discuss it in detail, if you want.

Yeah. I also ran everywhere.

And I practiced stealth in the basement of the Mage's Guild.

It's easy to get some of the stats up.

So its coming out for the 360 and the PC.
I recently got an x-box magazine with abunch of stuff on the 360, and it talks about morrorwind. But the picture it has for it isnt that impressive as far as graphics go. I WAS going to get it for the 360 because I feel I need to play more console games. But I am not sure it will be any good graphically because it is one of the first games coming out for the 360, and I doubt it will look as good as on the PC.

SO anyone heard how it will compare?

Running was never a problem when you had Boots of Blinding Speed and then dispelled the blinding effect.

Anyways, the new one has mounts and you can even outfit it with armor.

Your version must have had more of those than mine. I ended up taking those (if you even knew about the connections b/t them) and still walking for 25 minutes to get to a remote tent village tima and time again.

Quote :

Becasue if you ran it didn't make a whole lot of difference. Plus one of the primary leveling stats for my character raised by running so I would level before I wanted to. 10 primary skills leveled would trigger a cLvl increase IIRC. I ended up walking a lot just to avoid character leveling and because character leveling quickly without leveling a seconday skill would only net you a 1-2 increas in attributes. I wanted to postpone leveling until I could get the full 5 points that you could only get by leveling in certain secondary skills first.

It was run and level prematurely or walk and level optimally.

Forgive the lack of the real terms, I haven't played it in over 2 years.

ok, when i said it took forever to walk anywhere, i meant walk/run. it's been several years since i played this game, so i don't really remember much about it except that even with the silt striders (or whatever they were called) it still took forever and a day to get to where you needed to go, particularly in the capital city (vivec i think it was).
