i wouldn't say "bush" is at fault

but the entire government, including him, including the secretary of state, including congress and fema and everyone else, yes, they're at fault

some kids from duke university DROVE TO NEW ORLEANS the other day. all the way to new orleans. they went down there, and they rescued some people who no one else would help, then they drove them back to NC

all the while, the feds are dicking around going "durrr, we can't get anyone in to help."

it's a disgrace. a disgrace.

yeah
lets send the president in there to rescue people
maybe he could be one of the guys in the helicopters that pulls people off roofs
or maybe he could do crowd control somewhere
that sounds like a brilliant idea

You can quote me from posts I made on here years ago, but when the shit hits the fan, you're on your own. There's no use in counting on the government or anyone else to protect you. Police protection is a luxury that only exists when things are going well.

That said, it's a sad situation, and there's plenty of blame to go around, even to the victims that got themselves in the situation to begin with.

bush sits around too long with his thumb up his ass

bottom line... he could do something... and he's not he's going to survey the damage... why aren't we sending people in to help? blood on his hands... and blood on the hands of those that put him in office

fucking morons voted bush... that's about all I have to say on that.

I it liked when Russert asked him straight up if Nagin and Blanco bore responsibilty for not being 'more forceful' with respect to evacuations. He didn't answer the question.

well now, this has been said plenty of times, but some of those people literally had no ability to just leave. even if htey had just hit the road and walked, then they would have been on the road with no shelter when the hurricane hit.

hey really lets just put the presiednt in charge of fema

also lets put him in charge of the department of labor to help with unemployment
can we put him in charge of the federal reserve? that would probably solve the economy problems
my old middle school doesn't have enough text books and is underperforming, i say George W. Bush should be the new principal of lowes grove middle school

really he should jsut personally micromanage everything

a.) that's a horrid thing to say. don't wish such things on people
b.) he's right, you can't just expect the president to do everything.
c.) there are people there now, trying to help as best they can. donations are flying in. we'll save whoever we can
d.) hopefully we'll learn form our mistakes this time

You should blame the entire state government of LA before anyone else. You do realize that each state has protocol for situations like this. Also, the state gov. should have fixed the levies years ago with state tax money from N.O. On a side note, I hope you realize that Michael Moore is subjecting his stuff on you

Moore is not balanced in any of his views. He only shows people who support his ideas. From his videos you would think the entire country was liberal (which is clearly not the case at election time).

That video is disgustingly depressing.

It was an interview, not a fucking collection of clips.

Summation of our government response to this and the majority of posters on this board: all talk.

This isn't a fucking partisan issue.

The only thing I hear in that interview is "the federal government should do our job for us." No it's not a partisan issue, it's quite clearly an issue of federal vs state level responsibility for their citizens. I wonder how it is that almost routinely cities and towns get nearly leveled in natural disasters all across america, and yet, somehow, NO manages to fall apart?

How is it that with the same protocols and responses that FEMA has had for years, no place else except NO has fallen apart so desperately?

The autonomy and lack of beauracracy that he wants FEMA to have, that's what the state is supposed to have. That's why there's a national guard, that's why disaster management is placed primarily in the state's control, to remove beauracracy.

Disaster management responsibility goes from the bottom up for a reason, because the higher you go into government, the longer it takes for things to happen.

nah i think a zombie attack would be put down pretty quickly even without the help of the national guard or whoever else. everyone with the guns would actually have something to shoot at.

Is it possible that the reason it took a few days to get rescuers into New Orleans is because the National Guard is required to give its members something like 72 hours to mobilize? It's not like these guys are sitting around in barracks somewhere waiting to be called to duty, they have other jobs, bills, lives, etc to get in order before a deployment. The same goes for active duty military. I'd say that people were there fairly quickly when you consider the huge machine the government has to activate to get troops down there. A vast difference between some rich, spoiled Duke kids jumping into their parent 7-series and driving down there to help, which is cool, but vastly different. All you people wanna do is see the negative and cry about everything the government does or doesn't do quickly enough. Furthermore, if you had asked the citizens of New Orleans two weeks before Katrina hit if they would be willing to have significantly higher taxes in order to match federal funding to reinforce the levees, I guarantee that they would not have agreed. Bunch of Monday morning quarterbacks up in here.
