the website seems cool but most of the stuff won't load for me.

i don't know why so many people didn't like this movie, i thought it was great. seems like parents hated it, wrote it off as a total kids movie.

i'm with you, man.

i think the problem is the people that wanted to see it were fans of the book, and the fans of the book want the book made to film, which i think douglas adams and all the people that worked on the movie realized just wouldnt work too well. so when they made some changes to make it more movie-friendly, the die-hard fans were displeased. i'm a fan of the books and loved the movie, so i dont empathize with those people. is it so hard to enjoy a different telling of the same story? seems to me like you'd enjoy it that way because you get some variations to keep things fresh. i dont really get it...

that's the fucking stupid part. anyone who is a fan of the books and the other media (radio, the tv show) woudl know that each version is different. Like they were going to make an exact replica of the book in movie form? That would have been WAY too predictable.

I'm a big book fan but not rabid to the point where changes would upset me. I haven't seen the movie yet. I always wait for the DVD nowadays. By the time I get our little family to the theater we are out more money than if we had just bought the DVD when it goes on sale its first week of release. Also you usually know which movie to avoid by the time it hits DVD. I think we have bought one movie in the past 6 months.

So, was the movie worth the price of a DVD?

I read the book just prior to watching the movie. I'm a big fan of science fiction and humor, so needless to say I thoroughly enjoyed the book. The movie gave me some nice visuals, what I imagined my mind was shown on a big screen. I think the movie is for those only who have read the book. I saw it with a couple other guys who had not read the book, and they didn't enjoy it as much as I did. It's worth seeing once, I won't buy the dvd. Mos Def is definately moving up as an actor, his talent is exemplified.

Book > Radio > Movie > TV > A hell of a lot of other movies.

It's all good stuff.

it'll probably be the first dvd I've bought in forever. this one and maybe mallrats 10th anniversary.

it looks like there is good bonus material on here, and I only got to see it once in the theater.

This movie actually made less sense than Napoleon Dynamite. I want $1.50 and two hours of my life back. Complete suckfest.

I can't say what I'd think of it if i'd never read the books, listened to the radio show an dseen the tv show, but I know I'd probably like it less.

I can pretty much verify that for you. Suffice it to say, I had no idea what was going on, and it's not because I'm stupid. At least that girl was pretty cute.

Every medium the story has been translated in, has been slightly different. Radio shows != TV adaptation != 1st movie != book != 2005 movie.

I think it was a pretty funny movie and I was counting on it not being a direct to silver screen import. Kinda like I loved original Resident Evil for Sega Saturn, but I loved Director's Cut on Playstation and the remake on GameCube.

3 stars

Unless a book is 100% cinematic from the get-go (which most aren't), you have to make changes to it. If you don't, you get something flat, ala Harry Potter 1 and 2. Azkaban strayed a little, and look how much better it was.

It seemed a little all-over-the-place for me. The one thing that made it better than just watchabe was Tim from The Office.

picked up the widescreen edition dvd for 16.99 at target. A good deal.

There's some good bonus features on it

I assumed that.

And if I didn't like the movie all that much, why would I read the book that shares what I feel is the movie's greatest flaw?

Went to BestBuy to pick it up yesterday. They did not have the widescreen edition. They "had not received them yet".

Left BestBuy empty handed. Would buy someplace else if not for the gift card I have to BB.

i'm listening to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy audiobook as read by the author, Douglas Adams.

All those crazy words, names, and other various tidbits in the novel that you cant quite pronounce are made all clear in the audiobook.
