Quote :
" It was billed as a conversation with U.S. troops, but the questions President Bush asked on a teleconference call Thursday were choreographed to match his goals for the war in Iraq and Saturday's vote on a new Iraqi constitution.

"This is an important time," Allison Barber, deputy assistant defense secretary, said, coaching the soldiers before Bush arrived. "The president is looking forward to having just a conversation with you."

Barber said the president was interested in three topics: the overall security situation in Iraq, security preparations for the weekend vote and efforts to train Iraqi troops.

As she spoke in Washington, a live shot of 10 soldiers from the Army's 42nd Infantry Division and one Iraqi soldier was beamed into the Eisenhower Executive Office Building from Tikrit _ the birthplace of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.

"I'm going to ask somebody to grab those two water bottles against the wall and move them out of the camera shot for me," Barber said.

A brief rehearsal ensued.

"OK, so let's just walk through this," Barber said. "Captain Kennedy, you answer the first question and you hand the mike to whom?"

"Captain Smith," Kennedy said.

"Captain. Smith? You take the mike and you hand it to whom?" she asked.

"Captain Kennedy," the soldier replied.

And so it went.

"If the question comes up about partnering _ how often do we train with the Iraqi military _ who does he go to?" Barber asked.

"That's going to go to Captain Pratt," one of the soldiers said.

"And then if we're going to talk a little bit about the folks in Tikrit _ the hometown _ and how they're handling the political process, who are we going to give that to?" she asked.

Before he took questions, Bush thanked the soldiers for serving and reassured them that the U.S. would not pull out of Iraq until the mission was complete.

"So long as I'm the president, we're never going to back down, we're never going to give in, we'll never accept anything less than total victory," Bush said.

The president told them twice that the American people were behind them.

"You've got tremendous support here at home," Bush said. "

THIS IS THE FIRST TIME EVER THAT PROPAGANDA HAS BEEN USED

THE UNITED STATES NEVER EVEN HAD TO USE PROPAGANDA DURING WORLD WAR 2

THIS IS AN OUTRAGE! HOW COULD GEORGE BUSH USE PROPAGANDA?!!

THERE'S ABSOLUTELY NO PRECEDENT FOR THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR!

Did they give them answers to the questions before hand, because this just looks like people were trying to make sure they dont look like idiots in front of a camera.

That they hand-selected members of the conference is propoganda.

The scripting part is just because Bush sucks at answering questions.

Just by viewing this, it's very obvious who has and hasn't done a group presentation to the boss.

I mean, you don't want the supply officer jumping up and giving his two cents about personnel shortages just to upstage the personnel officer to look good on camera. Or 10 people attempting to answer one question at once. Better to organize it so the most qualified person answers the question.

Again, not really. It sounds like more of a rehearsal on their part so the whole meeting went smoothly. If I were going to answer questions from the president, I'd at least like a few minutes' warning to prepare some notes so that a.) I don't look like an idiot with "uh, um, unhhh...wait, let me look that up..." and b.) so that I don't ramble and waste his time.

For example, if they were going to ask a question about Tikrit, don't you think they'd like to figure out who would answer that before hand so that it goes to the person who has, oh, I don't know, maybe spent the most time in the area. Unless anyone has a better suggestion, that's what I'd try to do.

perhaps this will clear things up.

It isn't AS big a deal that the conference was scripted, though that is kinda iffy on its own. What's crazy is that they refused to admit it was scripted, then the VIDEO OF THE PRACTICE ROUNDS was broadcast on television. After scott mclellan tried to say that it wasn't scripted. The lady helping htem practice even SAID "scripted"

that link also shows the whitehouse press corps starting to grow some nads

Won't do time, but will be involved in a long-term case. The longer this drags out the better for the Dems. They need to get a pair and come up with a plan (any plan) to take back Congress in 2006.

No way in hell Hillary gets elected in '08, so we get back to spliting up the government again.

Gridlock ensues, then some bastardized form of bi-partisianship happens.

Then we can all have some equal opportunity hate.

man, i listened to rush bitch about this all the way home today. i wanted to change the channel but the people i was riding with didn't want to change it...

but really, whats the big fucking deal? everyone does this kind of thing, on both sides of the aisle. staging events is just one of those things people do.

even still, it doesn't look like this was "staged." It looks more like what Maverick said: organizing a meeting so that you don't have fifteen people all trying to answer at once...

stop spinnin, man.

care to actually address my points? nope, didn't think so. seriously, the libs just jumped all over this and there is NOTHING to it. I guess they are following the old adage: say something long enough and people will start to believe it!

^^^

This event is actually one of those events that makes me glad I don't work in the private sector. From my friends who have turned that way, I hear of meetings that are completely unorganized and ramble on for hours, often with large gaps where no one talks, people have sidebar conversations, etc. If you were to have a meeting or a staff briefing for your boss in the military that rambled just a tiny bit, you'd definitely hear about it and be put back on track. Most people have better places to be than stuck in a meeting. You organize the meeting, publish an agenda at a minimum. If you're briefing a VIP (and the President certainly qualifies as one), you'd better practice to make sure everyone is prepared for what questions they're likely to answer and what areas they are prepared to brief.

Another proof from Michelle Malkin that the event was not staged. Which is... that all of them have always been staged. This is the email that she cites to show how the media itrresponsibly lies about the press-conference having been staged.

Quote :
"My husband was in the military 40 years ago and the USO entertainers were performing for Christmas. The soldiers were told how to behave during the taping i.e.. where to look, when to applaud, etc. POINT: They have been rehearsing the troops for decades."

I swear the bitch on so much speed, it's not even fucking funny. She can't even remember what the fuck she's trying to argue.

P.S. ^ Yeah, the private sector sucks. The government is so much more efficient. BTW, let me guess. Are you a Republican?

I'm talking about meetings based on what I know from people who've been on both sides of the aisle. I'm not making broad-sweeping comments about efficiency, contrary to what you may want to believe. What's your work experience with both the private sector and the government sector? Have you observed differently?

ummm, no, that doesn't say that all the events were "staged." Staging is when you actually script out every last little detail, down to what people say. A wedding is staged. Rehearsing is when you plan out the major things so that everyone knows what the overall plan is. A debate is rehearsed. Few people would argue that the presidential debates were "staged."

of course, it just sounds so much better to say that it was staged. besides, I can't really find anything that shows that this event was supposed to be televised. AKA, it doesn't appear that this was a press conference or anything. Maybe it was, but I can't seem to find anything to indicate otherwise. Under this assumption, why the fuck would you stage this? What purpose does it fucking serve?

"Hey guys, lets get together and talk to the president by ourselves, just us and him. By the way, he wants you to say these things, ok? But, he really wants to talk to you guys. so just say what he wants you to say."

yeah, that makes a lot of sense...

This is rather irrelevant, Bush ran two campains exactly like this. A la Karl Rove, It's the same recycled shit. I know that no sane politician would risk his neck on National TV by having soldiers speak their minds. I personally thought the whole thing was pointless but I guess he must really need to get sympathy from somewhere.
