"LOS ANGELES -- In a salute to Ronald Reagan, President Bush is helping dedicate a new Air Force One exhibit at the former president's library, but his appearance at a GOP fundraiser while he's here has upset some California Republicans.

Bush was to join former first lady Nancy Reagan in Simi Valley on Friday to officially open a new pavilion at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library that features a Boeing 707, which carried Reagan and six other presidents.

The Air Force One Pavilion, which also houses a former Marine One helicopter, a presidential limousine and a replica of an Irish pub, tells the story of Reagan's two-term presidency. Visitors who tour the retired Air Force One will see Reagan's beloved jelly beans on the plane's presidential conference table."

anyone know why the reagan library now has a model of an irish pub in it?

"DUBLIN (AFP) - The inside of an Irish pub named after former US president Ronald Reagan is being moved from Ireland to be recreated inside the late US leader's library and museum in California, its owner said.

Reagan drank a pint in the pub in the village of Ballyporeen, central Ireland, in June 1984 when he paid a four-day visit to the country.

Four years earlier, the president had traced his family tree from his hometown in Tampico, Illinois to the small County Tipperary village from where his paternal great-grandfather had emigrated to the United States in the 1850s.

The pub's owner John O'Farrell, who has now retired, confirmed the interior was being dismantled and moved to California.

He and his wife Mary will travel there to pull the first pint when the pub reopens for business in the Reagan Library in Simi Valley on October 22.

"We still own the building but we have given up the business," O'Farrell told AFP, "We are very excited about going over for the re-opening."

He said when the late president came to Ireland to track down his roots 21 years ago the old Reagan home was gone.

O'Farrell, whose family owned the pub for several generations, said Reagan was, however, able to see where the old homestead had been.

He was shown the baptismal record of his ancestor in the local church and the font where he was baptised. He also met some of his Irish cousins.

Among the contents being moved to California are the bar's old counters, advertising signs, liquor cabinets, bottles and memorabilia that have built up in the pub for over 100 years.

Reagan, who served two terms as US president, died aged 93 in June 2004."
