This worries me, particulary because I doubt whether he will appoint someone who will be critical of any part of his economic policy.

well the pres. made the guy sound pretty well qualified even though i'd never heard of him before.

It's not hard. The guy is actually a sound, quality candidate with strong support from both sides of the aisle. Kinda like the Roberts nomination; you may hate the man because Bush nominated him, but there's just no way to attack him because he's probably one of the most qualified candidates for the position.

Thus, Bush's enemies will probably be forced to hold back on this guy and vent their pent up frustrations by beating on Meiers some more.
