Matthew Dalrymple, 20, of Bessemer City, and Neil Sargeant, 24, and Kyle Triplett, 21, both of Boone, were charged with first-degree murder. The three are jailed without bond and scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 19. Harrington, who graduated from Wakefield High School, was a dedicated student who loved music, according to band director Joshua Potter. "He was one of our inaugural band students," Potter said. "He was in the first group at Wakefield to be part of the band program and got it up and running in all the right ways. Harrington was also a cross-country runner. Yah I was friends with Stephen... he was a great guy when I knew him... very nice. Read the N&O article that talks about how he would help out all the younger kids in his scout troop. I can't imagine what his family is going through having suddenly hearing their son was murdered... His parents are some of the nicest people too

there must have been some sort of motive

whether it was a carjacking gone wrong or just being in the wrong place at the wrong time

drugs are so popular up in Boone, especially meth, it wouldnt be surprising if the guys involved in the murder were looking for money (to buy drugs)

i'm assuming the 3 guys involved stole the car and Stephen was around the car or in the car.....they shoved him in the trunk and he suffocated. the three guys freaked out and tried to burn the car to not leave any evidence

either way, this is so sad.....what a horrible thing to happen to such a young guy and his family, especially when the holidays are coming up

Wow just Wow, I was up in the Boone area just last week. Ive visited Appalachian numerous times and never seemed to be a school where this kind of thing would happen. Everyone there seemed so nice and polite to each other.
