I have been so tiered lately... and i took off work to study... and all I can do is sleep.
I have been trying everything to stay awake to study, and just end up falling asleep after reading two pages. This is not good!!!
... caffine just makes me jittery and sleepy.
does anyone have any suggestions?
I think i might be sick or something... can't figure out why else I'm so tiered.

1) eat -- when i'm REALLY tired, it tends to keep me going
2) light exercise -- nothing heavy; usually perks me up

Where I work people start doing push-ups whenever they start feeling tired.
And then they start mainlining caffeine.

hmm... interesting suggestions... the being cold makes me sleepy too.... i think that has to do with all the car trips we went on when i was little and my mom tried to freeze herself out to stay awake... I had nothing better to do so I ended up sleeping... must of stuck.
so, i went ahead and tried caffine anyways... took an amp and a venti cafe mocha... helped for a little bit... still sleepy... but not falling asleep, just jittery and yuck... guess it's better than falling asleep every two pages. I didn't get enough done to go to the party tonight
I better not have mono... I'll be pissed

put lots of sugar in your coffee

eat a lot, especially junk food and chocolatey stuff

excercise

also loud music, and anything that gets your adrenaline going, like video games or thinking about failure

I already have a lot of troube getting side tracked...
oy... I have been having a lot of sugar... but I don't have fatty food in my house, and I'm poor because i gave up my shifts this week to study... I just had a hard-boiled egg... maybe the protein will help?
I think sex would help ... but i have to wait awhile longer on that one
as for riddlin... I think I need that on a daily basis :p... that's why I don't understand why I am so tiered and blah. I am usually very hyper and constantly feel the need to multi-task. I think it's just exams, I swear i always have something wrong with me around exam time.

Catch up on your sleep? I know it sounds dumb, but if you're tired just sleep alot one day and catch up on the hrs you've missed.

I have this problem too.

FIrst off, where are you reading? Are you reading a book in your bed or a couch, cuz that will definitely do it.

Are you getting at least 7 hours of sleep?

Are you reading within 2 or so hours of eating?

Are you doing any exercise? To keep myself awake for long periods of time, I just go out for a run, do pushups, and blast 80's music while doing it.

Too much coffee with too much sugar will make your stomach hurt and make you feel sick after a while... as will the energy drinks. I've been using hot tea lately... keeping a moderately temp. room with a slight chill... and it has worked out pretty well. I have the same problem with staying awake... another thing that I found that helped was finding a new place to study... somewhere where there were other people but was still conducive to studying (-- library never really worked out well... plus it's pretty packed during finals. somewhere like borders or barnes & noble is always nice, though. or another building on campus that has large tables or student lounges that are used.)

Good luck... if you find anything that really works, let me know! :-D

... tried the 80s/90s music thing... that and munching (pretzels with dijon mustard... mmm) and a lot of lights on has helped
as for staying focused... the only way I can stay focused when I'm studying is if I write shit down... making note cards forces you to focus on the particular thing you are writing down. I have huge issues with focusing on any one thing... it's the only thing I have found to even slightly work.

apples are seriously a great way for staying awake - a sort of tart, very crunchy one that you can take big, satisfying chunks out of

and a bottle of water is good too

don't go to the bathroom when you have to. Holding it in for hours when you have to pee is guaranteed to keep you awake, lol.

get a schedule and stick to it. Go to bed at 11, wake up at 6 or 7. you body probably only needs 7 or 8 hours of sleep each night, so DONT OVER-SLEEP. people that say they need 9 or 10 hours of sleep each night are kidding themselves. Eventually your body will get used to it. If you are going to bed at different times every night and waking up at different times every morning, it will really throw your body and mind off, and you'll wind up feeling tired all day.

you might also try catching up on sleep like joepeshi suggested. if you've been consistently getting slightly less sleep than you need each night, the effects will add up, so try sleeping for 10 hours or so one night. once you've done this for one night, start sleeping on schedule.

if you are studying at your house and find yourself falling asleep, leave the house to study. I absolutely cannot study at my house, so I've quit trying. Go someplace really boring where there are no other distractions. You might goof off at first, but eventually you will be so bored that you will study.

one last piece of advice: make sure that you stop studying at some point. what I mean to say is that you should study in 1 hour (or so) blocks, then take a break. I've found that if I don't have a well defined stopping place, my mind tends to wander and I waste a lot of time. Once you are done taking a break, get back to studying for another hour or so.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

full disclosure: I drink coffee all of the time. Its like beer or gin: eventually you get over the fact that you get so jittery and you just enjoy it/couldn't stop even if you wanted to. I have to go feed the monkey now.
