I'm curious as to how many xboxes you think you'd have to buy to make 500 bucks.

When they first came out, you could make an easy 500. Good luck turning it around for a 500 bone profit now.

you won't make a $500 profit now

they're too plentiful

there's like 20000 of them for sale on eBay right now, literally

I heard now that there's a bunch more of them, you can sell them for ten times as much.

That's called supply and demand.

Actually most everyone reported that 38% sold the first weekend (62,000/159,000). Also most stores were saying that while not a lot were purchased yet there were people putting reservations for the 360 when DOA4 was released (one of the few games that appeals to the Asian market). XBox 360 is not doing nearly as bad as people are trying to make it out to be, in regards to sales and in regards to operation of the machines.

I just got back from the camp out at the Cary Best Buy. I was holding a spot for my fiance (who works at Best Buy) until he got off from work. Those mofos are crazy as hell to spend all night out in that crap for one.

Why would a company release a product and then not provide enough inventory to retailers? It is not like they couldn't get China to manufacture more of these devices. Very very dumb move on Microsofts part.

i think they were trying to use the frenzy they knew that so few systems would cause in the US to help them sell more overseas. everyone would see how crazy the US was over them and buy one too.

I for one think its brilliant.

You had overwhelming demand for a product with limited supply already. MS knew that people would be lining up at the doors to get their hands on them, then the free market economics simply took over.

Stories about how people were camping out on store sidewalks for hours, about how some 360's went for over $1000 a pop generates a buzz in the "uninformed parent buying a xmas present" demographic that says "Damn this thing must really be good! I need to get one for my kid!"

MS is blaming the availability problems on IBM, and considering IBM's history with Apple, this is a plausible explanation.

It was more a productiont hing than anythign else. Keep in mind that just 6 months ago they still didn't have the capacity to make a single xbox360 because the parts just weren't available yet.

I still think its a smart move simply because the news/frenzy does all the marketing you need. Why bother with commercials when the nightly news, newspaper, and word of mouth hits pretty much everyone without showing a thing. Oh, and the xbox360 is not selling nearly as badly as people are saying (they sold 40% of the stock the opening weekend) and most asians are waiting for the DOA4 release anyways.

If it was really was IBM's fault, MS should have taken that into consideration and not released it until there was a decent supply. MS isn't making money on people selling it for $1000, that just means people will have less money to buy their shit.

Delaying it would have pushed it passed Christmas and that would be catastrophic for sales. People paying $1,000 doesn't hurt them because the people who do that can afford it without hesitation.

Isn't that the truth. Parents who buy their kids a $400 videogame system that just came out need to be dragged into the street and stoned. What message are you sending to your kid when they ask for such and expensive gift and actually get it, that if they throw a fit every day then they will get what they want. This is what's wrong with society. The more and more we try to claim stuff for ourselves, the more and more we push away everyone else. "You want an Xbox 360, fuck you, that system is mine. You say you want it more?" *Bang* "I just shot you bitch, who wants it more now." (Worst case scenario, but it is bad enough to where fist-fights, trampeling, and guns being drawn have happened because of this release). First it starts off as the kid screaming and yelling for an Xbox 360 on Christmas day, then it moves onto a person shooting another over a someone's brand new Mustang, Camaro, or whatever the hell you want.

And the parent's excuse for buying them an Xbox 360, "Well, I want to make him happy." You really want to make him happy, teach him not to be so materialistic so that when he grows up, he doesn't have to get ass-raped by a 400 pound man named Tiny while he spends his 20+ year sentence in prison. I'm sure not ever meeting Tiny would make him happy enough, I know it's made me happy my whole life, and I intend to keep it that way.

^A little extreme but on the right track.

I was listening to poeple talking about gifts they were giving this morning on talk radio. One lady was trying to decide what to get her 9 year old nephew. She couldn't decide because he wanted a gamecube and she wanted to be able to get him several things so there was more to open. After all "If I get him the game cube I'll only be able to afford it and one other thing." They then went on to talk about how he only played the nintendo handheld that she got him last year only one or two times. The conversation was basically a debate on whether or not to get the gamecube because the kid doesn't really play video games that much. She will still be getting the gamecube for him.

My first though was . "If I get him the game cube I'll only be able to afford it and one other thing." Holy crap! If I got a GC for christmas (or its equivalent at the time) that would be pretty much all I would be getting - let alone one of an expected many gifts from just my aunt at that.

People are crazy spoiling their kids like that. Not once did they even hint to the lady that she was spoiling the crap out of that kid. Notice how the kid didn't appreciate the prior christmas gift? That is another symptom of what happens when you fulfil a kids every whim without teaching sacrifice.

You can get back to talking about the Xbox 360 campout now

In terms of video games it is pretty damn cheap considering that a new Xbox 360 game is $60.

^Yeah, in that light.

$60 is a lot to me. I guess video games have hit the magical price where they are no longer worth it to me. I'll settle for the PC versions when they hit $19.

Well after the games have sold a lot of titles, they usually become "greatest hits" games and go down to $19.99. I don't know if the PS3 and 360 games will ever get that low (since their initial cost will be so much higher), but I'm pretty sure the REV games will since it is expected to cost so much less.
