Yea man. This is some pretty ridiculous stuff. I'm not even one to complain about officiating usually but I don't know that I've ever seen a game called like this outside of Cameron Indoor...

It makes ACC refs seem not so terrible.

The most AMAZING thing of the whole game was we didn't get called for a foul when rebounding that last play by them...granted we didn't foul anyone, I was fully expected a "mysterious foul" to be called.

why were the stinking announcers telling bama to foul down 3 with 90 seconds left?

Because odds are they were gonna have to foul at some point and as long as we weren't in the bonus it was to our advantage (we get clock resets every time there is a foul). The 4 fouls didn't hurt Alabama at all.

Becuase they had 999.9 fouls to give before the bonus

If they needed to send us to the line, they couldn't.

This game finally pushes me over the edge in believing that officials are out to call entertaining games instead of fair games. Not so much in likely blowouts, but if they think they can keep it close with some calls, they seem to go for it. Tonight was god damn fucking rediculous.

i think it is dumb to foul in a one possession game with over 45 seconds left. put some faith in your d (like gottfried did) and play tough d if they score you lose if they dont ur in good shape. dont "give" them points

Funny thing is, If there is still time for them to play hard D and get the ball back, and they only have 3 fouls....they could just play D as hard as they can. That way, a foul doesnt hurt you, and you will more than likely force a bad shot or a turnover. Oh well thats why they're alabama...sucks for them, good for us.

but a foul resets the clock and you lose more time decreasing your chances even more if they happend to sscore. they ended up getting a steal on some ncstate shit anyway.

We shot 4 Free Throws and we are a team that usually shoots an average amount. They shot what 26??? Totally ridiculous. I wanted to throw the TV out the window. That near loss would have been blamed on Herb too when he coached a good game.

Glad I wasn't just seeing things, I went to East Village to watch the game and had no sound. When it was about a 1:45 and they started to foul us I thought surely we are going to the line to shoot some free throws so I had enough time to go to the bathroom. Boy was I wrong.

I definitely think the biggest problem we have this year is getting to the line.

Julius was our only consistent threat to get to the foul line.

We're gonna lose some games we shouldn't if we don't start learning how to draw fouls.

Guys let it go.

I only saw the last 9 minutes of the game, but I didn't see any poor calls.

In fact, the biggest call of the game went our way when they didn't give him the basket on the potential three point play at the end. I think they made the correct call, but it was somewhat close and sometimes the home team gets away with those.

Refs don't have to give you free throws just for showing up and playing.

Bama was playing a zone and we were throwing it around the perimeter and taking open shots.

There weren't opportunities for free throws.

There were plenty if you had seen the other 31 minutes of the game.

However, I'll grant you that there was no way that we should have gone to the line as much as Bama did because, yes, half the time we threw up a long range shot from the middle of nowhere where there was no opportunity to foul. But there were plenty of times that our guys got hacked to shit in the paint with no calls.

If there was equity in foul calling state wins this game by 20. The difference in foul shooting wasridiculous. Not to mention the fact that Alabama shot 50% (State avergaes 34.5% opp shooting pct.) because all of States players were in foul trouble and had to stop playing defense.

^^^^Yes, we didnt go inside as much as Bama did and shouldnt expect to shoot as many free throws in that case...but its not like we set up camp outside the arc. We still went inside plenty to have a good share of free throw attempts, but the fouls were only called if they mugged us. If the game was called with any amount of consistency, we should have went to the line AT LEAST a dozen times.

numerous charges that were called blocks, forearms that werent called, hooks that a blind man could see, a jumpball with evtimov are you kidding me, Brackman stands with his hands up 10 ft. from teh ball and tehy call him on a reach in...we have 3 guys down for rebounds boxing out and yet somehow Bama gets it OVER OUR BACK with no call...Atsur gets tackled at half court no call bethel gets his shot blocked with was blatant goal tending, Brackman got hacked on one of his dunks still got no call on the foul...we shoot free throws with 20 seconds left no, that doesnt happen. The guy that gets the ball from the inbounds gets fould before teh ball even touches his hands and .9 seconds go off the clock. Bennerman and Evtimov both get shoved down low like its a mosh pit, the announcers even commented on that once.

thats just some of the things that were obvious and didnt get called or went the wrong way.

granted Bennerman had a TON of travels that should have been called but were not, that doesnt outweigh that list i have up there, and they are all true and can be shown on the replay, thats at least 10 calls that were missed and shouldnt have been, no wonder they scored so easily in the paint when your big men have 4 fouls before halftime almost you cant do much more.

-ref you suck ref you suck
-a rope a tree hang the referee
-when i grow up and i cant see i wanna be a referee
-im blind im def i wanna be a ref
-nuts and bolts nuts and bolts we got screwed
-get off your knees ref, youre blowin the game

Alright two things. I'll grant you that when seeing the game live your emotions probably got the best of you and you didn't see things exactly as they happened.

Quote :

This was the correct call. What actually happened is that Atsur lost control of his dribble. He and another player went after the loose ball and there was some incidental contact. Atsur then lost the ball out of bounds.

Quote :

This was the correct call. Evtimov grabbed a rebound and then instead of throwing an outlet pass or starting a basketball move he sat in the paint holding the ball at his waist. An Alabama defender simply grabbed the ball creating a jump ball situation. I'm not sure what you wanted to be called here. Evtimov was not in the act of rebounding or dribbling.

i dont see how the evtimov call is correct is he is standing there moving his arms around, theres no way the dudes gonna place his hands directly on the ball without getting a fall or reach in, doesnt make sense but that incident actually helped us out in the end because every time they fouled we got a new shot clock, they were just killing themselves.

i can't say by rule the call was incorrect, but I didn't think the guy tied Evtimov up enough to deserve the jump ball. Especially given how physical the game was being played and by how they let Ev rip the ball away from an Alabama player earlier in the game without a whistle...

but the guy did get both hands on the ball, so technically Valentine could call it a jump ball. can't say i was shocked that he did made that call...

Well I think he gave him the jump ball because Evtimov stood there for so long.

Had he just pulled down the rebound it would have been a reach-in foul.

But Evtimov tucked the ball away and just stood there and didn't attempt to pass or dribble.

The ball was in plain sight and the Alabama defender put one hand above the ball and one hand below it...

It COULD have been a reach-in, but it looked pretty damn clean to me.

^^i wouldn't really argue the reach-in. I just thought as physical as that game was being played, you have to give a little benefit of the doubt late in the game to Ev. He definitely held onto it for too long, but he didn't really have a good outlet pass either.

And honestly, if it hadn't been Valentine that made that call, I probably wouldn't have been as upset about it. But as emphatic as he was running out there to signal jump-ball, it really looked like he just enjoyed making the call given his prior history...

i think we're pretty deep. we only use our experienced 7, but i think by about midway through the season or so, those freshmen will be starting to work their way into the lineup.

McCauley has already started getting pt, and when we are not in a tight game (like miami and bama), fells and costner have been getting good pt as well.

It just doesn't make sense to have freshmen in a tight game and put an experienced atsur or grant on the bench. If anything last night was a perfect example of what keeping your experienced players in the game can do for you.

yea thats what i'm sayin. once the players are confident in the offense (i.e. midseason), they'll be in there more and more. i dont take offense to his comment or anything, i just dont think we have a "short bench" in the usual sense.

Costner was getting the most playing time of any of the freshman. But he isn't playing because he has a stress fracture in his leg and it is questionable if he will be back. Stress fractures take a while to heal. Since he hasn't been playing McCauley has been getting pt and has looked decent. I'm not sure why they don't play Fells very much. He looks pretty decent to me . . . but maybe I'm wrong.

I don't think that there is much need for him now. The backcourt is pretty solid this year.
