but no baby......water broke but no contractions(at that time) Now they got her on the medicine that causes the contractions, dilated(sp) 6 cm.....before medicine, she wasnt. Due date was first week of the New Year. Doc says Lucy Elizabeth is 8pds. If sister is not to 10cm by the time the doctor sees her tonight, the doc might do a cesarean. Sister doesnt like that idea, but the risk of infection goes.

Doesnt look like Lucy will be a xmas baby.

My son was born 3 weeks ago and we needed to do the vacuum extraction/episiotamy... We didn't like the idea either, but my fiance is doing fine and so is the baby. She was really having problems for the first day cuz of the pain, but is fine. Definately do C-section over vacuum/episiotamy.

Inducing the baby sucks, but you have to after water breaks and she is ruptured because of a huge increase in the chance of infection.

My fiance went from 5-10 cm in 2 hours, so it could be any time now.

Oh, and we were 2 weeks early too.

When I had my son, they induced me because I had pregnancy induced hypertension and preeclampsia. They gave me pitocin, which is what I'm sure your sister is taking. My water broke the first day but I only got dilated to 4 cm after 48 hours of labor. I had a C-section and all is good. They might delay the c-section and give her more time as long as the baby doesn't start going into distress (that's what happened to my son).

UPDATE

unfortunately, they had to do a cesarean.....she was in hard labor for 3 hrs last night, couldnt get her head under the pelvis bone. She was born about 9pm last night(xmas eve) She had carried her "high" which of course means longer way down. Nurses saying Lucy is one of the best babies they have had, she doesnt cry much. My sister is kinda out of it, and will be in the hospital till Tuesday.

mom's email

Quote :
"After a full day of labor including 3 hours of pushing, Lucy was born at 9:41pm tonight by C-section. Lucy has dark hair, weighs 7lbs., 11ozs., and is 21 1/2 inches long. Mother and baby and dad were getting some much needed rest when we left the hospital a few minutes ago."

She is a long as my brother(who is 6'6") when he was born

I was like 22 inches when I was born and only turned out to be 5'5 so I don't think that's an indicator of anything.

Damn, sucks for her. With a birthday on Christmas, she won't get as many presents and people will be too busy to throw her birthday parties.

Congrats on being an uncle!
I wish my water would break....I know they probably don't work but going to try all those old wives tales and remedies anyway.

congratulations to your sister

And there's nothing wrong with having a C-section, it's sometimes the safest route for both mother and baby. Me and my two siblings were all delivered by cesarian.

Congrats Roddy! And good luck to Lizlyncsu. My water never broke, but I went into labor. really weird. They had to break the water at the hospital. But, my doodle was born by 9:38 in the am during the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade.

Well nuns shouldn't be pregnant to begin with, that's why there's no baby.
