Really? I mean I know the chances are high there could be some bad storms but I have never heard of closing schools early or going home for weather like this.

So once spring arrives and we have a chance at severe weather once or twice a week are they gonna cancel schools? What about summer where every single day you have that chance of a freak storm popping up? I get its a high risk day but a fair amount of kids are a lot safer at that school than home in their houses to be honest. Not to mention the stuff moving through now isnt exactly tame and you sent all the buses out into this with no problem.

Ive seen two tornado warnings already so Id call that severe

Ive had sideways rain here a bit ago so the wind was blowing at about the same time they were sending the buses out. I guess my point is they send kids home early out into the first round of this stuff so what is safe about that? They have known this was coming for days they should have just cancelled if safety was their actual concern. Either that or keep the kids late until the last line passes. Sending them out now may be safer than a few hours from now I guess but not the smartest move.

There have been no tornado warnings yet in this area

And I'm trying to explain that this first band isn't the sever band they are warning us about, that is this afternoon, it's not worse than storm that happen all the time so it's not an excessive risk

You do realize several other counties also did this including ones much closer to those warned areas right?

pussification of america.

why the hell are they letting school out?

I do, but the majority of kids in Eastern NC live in poor conditions, old houses or even trailers/mobile homes.

Back in my day we would just put our heads near our nuts and hope for the best.

I'm ITB rain is heavy on and off and its breezy and warm out there. I heard fire sirens so Im guessing the roads arent fine due to idiots much like anytime anything is falling from the sky.

it's always a little weird to me when adults complain about schools closing early in other districts/counties...why does that bother anybody? the whole thing comes off as a back in my day argument.

although i would assume that most school buildings are safer from tornadoes than people's homes. but, if it's going to impact kids on the bus, then i completely understand that.

The storm front should hit Raleigh around 5. Tornado risk increasing.

Big Black cell just passed right by my building, cool to see. Wind was whipping but any big rains seem to have missed me.

I'm in RTP. They issued a warning and told everyone to get to the first floor in a center conference room with no windows. I'm still in my office. Doesn't look bad at all, just a little bit cloudier/darker than normal.

I am also in RTP

I am slammed in a tiny room with half my coworkers pretending to work on laptops. I can hear some wind but meh.

I want to leave. They won't let me.

This has been one of the weirdest weather days in recent memory. Pouring down rain, thunderstorms, then a half hour later it's bright and sunny and 70 degrees. Only constant has been the wind, gusting up to 50mph and 60mph and stuff.
