I was really hoping to hear "Ada" and "Gospel" at The National show, but I can't complain. It was a fantastic show, regardless.

I also second those who commented about how nice the band was. I got there just a few minutes before the opening band went on, and as I headed down Franklin St., just before I got to the intersection where the KFC is, I noticed this dude walking by himself up the street. I thought he looked familiar....

I went up the street and parked near Armadillo Grill, started walking down to the venue, and came to the front door of the Cradle where I saw the guy I had seen walking down the street..... sure enough, it was Matt Berninger. By the time I was walking in, he was already being mobbed by some group of inquisitive kids near the front, but he was really receptive to all the attention.

I found it completely random that he was just meandering down Franklin, by himself, an hour or so before playing a sold out show. lol

I'm kinda glad I forgot to buy tickets to PB&J. It would've been worth it for Clientele, but I have a feeling that crowd would annoy the bejesus out of me. I heard "Young Folks" in TJ Maxx. TEE JAY MAXX!

Yes, I'm a dickhole.

But I just spent $texas on plane tickets. So I'm a broke dickhole who doesn't need to be paying $25 for one band I've already seen and one band I could honestly take or leave.

I wanted to see PB&J as well, but didn't know if it was worth $25 to me, despite loving both of their records. Going to see Midlake and The National the week before and then Andrew Bird this upcoming Wednesday was enough of a marathon for me.

i saw Peter Bjorn and John perform "young folks" on tv a couple times, and the dude isn't an "actual singer", meaning they protooled the shit out of that shit to get it in tune on LP. in other news, the apples in stereo are playing the fucking lincoln theatre. weird, but i'll be there.

PB&J were good <3

though I hate to admit that spooky was right about the crowd... a couple people behind me were acknowledging how brilliant they were for realizing that PB&J were "just like Franz Ferdinand"

Andrew Bird's myspace page says 8 pm start time and there's one opening band. (Augie March from Australia---http://www.myspace.com/augiemarch)

Shows at these venues tend to start right on time (at least the Decemberists did at Meymandi Hall, as did Sufjan Stevens at Memorial Hall). If the show starts right at 8pm, the box office will open at 7 pm according to this page: http://www.carolinatheatre.org/theatreinfo/

But, since Spooky used to work there, I'm taking his word for it. Do you think they'll start right on time as I assume they do, Spookyjon?

More information on directions and parking can be found here: http://www.carolinatheatre.org/theatreinfo/directions.html

thoughts on Andrew Bird: that was the sickest thing I've ever seen in my life...just became my favorite concert.

Ran into some people who caught him at the Orange Peel Tuesday night, and instead of Jeremy he had someone on drums sit in with him.

And here I debated seeing him in Asheville, Durham, and Atlanta...now I'm kicking myself.

********

Oh yeah...Ani Difranco coming to Thomas Wolfe in Asheville 11/11, and Carolina Theatre 11/14...tickets on sale now at tickets.com $35

free Flyleaf show last night @ Lincoln was awesome

the opening band, however, was easily the worst opening band I've ever seen in my entire life, and that's saying something

So it was just Andrew bird up there by himself? No drums? Did he play any particularly unexpected songs (e.g., Oh Sister, Bob Dylan cover)?

I was supposed to see him at the Orange Peel, but school got in the way

Andrew Bird was awesome last night. Played mostly older songs (I only remember Plasticities, Cataracts, Scythian Empire, and I think Yawny At The Apocalypse were played off Armchair). I love watching someone able to put together songs like him and Owen Pallett. I had only heard of two or three songs from Augie March but I thought there performance was a little uninspiring. Maybe they just didn't eat enough to put on a good show.
