they only played one song of their new cd

was a good thing.

small venue, a bit larger than cat's cradle... and it didnt sell out...

fiery furnaces were terrrrrible when i saw them in dc

for some reason they thought playing the songs faster equated to playing the songs better.

instead, it just sucked the life out of all of them.

saw the noisettes at TV on the Radio

they seemed purty cool, yet i'm a sucker for female vocals in an alt band

I saw the noisettes at the same show...... I watched for about 10 minutes, then I stood outside until they were finished.

I have nothing against the female leads, but that spastic bitch was getting on my nerves.

July 18th THE BESNARD LAKES @ Blend

Haven't been there since it changed from the Wetlands, but it's good to see they still host a cool show every now and again.

Tomorrow night, Tuesday May 22nd, there's a free show by The Modern Skirts at the Pourhouse. These guys are really fucking good... especially if you're a fan of Ben Folds Five and similar artists. (piano, 3 part harmonies, etc)

They're from Athens, GA and have had a lot of pub down there, even having members of REM show up at their show and a small write up in Paste Magazine about this time last year.

Check 'em out. http://www.myspace.com/modernskirts

Seriously, you should hear their whole album. They've turned down a couple of labels b/c they're holding out for a "merge" type... a bigger indie label, in other words. They also had someone from Virgin go check them out (I have a friend who is in sales w/ Virgin, and he loved their show, so he forwarded on up to some people to go scout them, but the scout's said they sounded 'too 60's' for them.... sounding 60's isn't a bad thing for my taste, but that's just me).

bump for more Modern Skirts love.... srsly, you folks should go check them out. They go on at 10 and it's a hell of a show if you like that Ben Folds type sound.
They go on at 9:30/10 for FREE at the Pourhouse.. the band Marino is opening.

Check out "NY Song" and "Four More Years" (rough recording on that one).

Cursive was at CC's last night. They played a lot of their older stuff...I don't really like the new album. During the encore they played an amazing version of The Recluse. Good show.

Just checked out directions to the the Millennium Center in WS for the Bloc Party show tomorrow and saw that the Maccabees are out and the Annuals are taking their place. This is getting a bit ridiculous. This will be the fourth time I've seen them this year! (Dears, Blonde Redhead, King's, and now Bloc Party)

^ Yeah, they played with Bloc Party tonight @ HOB. I enjoyed them a lot, first time seeing them.

I hadn't heard the Noisettes before tonight, but wow, that was a treat. When a black girl rolled out there and started just rocking the stage out I was like

Then I realized she was British and it's okay to be black and act like a normal person in England. They were awesome.

Of course Bloc Party was great -- they played well over 20 songs, just over 2 hours. SIX encore songs. SIX.

Bloc Party was awesome last night and the Annuals played their best setlist that I've heard (thank God they didn't play that one songs where they talk about magic flying out of their fingers).

dayum--- how close in time is that to the Strawberry Jam release? I know that's coming in September as well.

I think several live shows are out now with recordings of new songs from Strawberry Jam, I can link them if you like. (if you don't have them yet)
