I have a dilema. I am getting married in October and have 2 friends, good friends, who I have to choose between for a best man.

One guy I have known for close to 14 years and we've been great friends the entire time without one single fight, disagreement, argument whatsoever...

But on the other hand, a good buddy of mine from High School and College, who we got closer by me moving back to Hickory a few years ago, knows me inside and out and is very well spoken and would be a great best man. Ive seen him do it before. The only fallback there is that since he's gotten married a year ago he's changed a lot. We still hang out all the time, but the inseperable buddy thing isnt there anymore...

I just don't know how to decide, they are both great friends and would do anything for me, I just dont want to let anyone down...

1st guy

at least the 2nd guy has already done it, so it's not a huge let down, you know?

1st guy

2nd guy can be the maid of honor

you could make one guy best man and give the other guy some sort of other 'important duty'

a good friend of mine had two. I was one. We had been friends since 6th grade but I came out here to go to school and we hadn't seen each other hardly at all, even though we kept in touch. The other was a good friend he met while in college.

Your dad for best man, the others are groomsmen. Problem solved.

BTW, that's how a lot of southers weddings are IIRC.

The bestman doesnt have to throw the bachelor party. Dad-> bestman is very common.

thats exactly what it is.

if you ever go to a wedding north of the M-D line, you'll never see a dude have his dad be the best man

i'm not looking forward to having to decide. i have narrowed it down to 4, but 3 of them are neck-and-neck

does it really matter? if either of them feel slighted by not being the best man then they're pretty fucking selfish. pick whichever one is going to throw the better batchelor party...

Something is wrong if you have 3-4 possible best friends. I don't care who you are, at most you should have like 2 buddies that you would go to the grave for.

Guys don't care. As long as you're not passing over your brother for the best man role, then it won't be a big deal.

^^

and the b. party is not the primary duty of the best man. it's a duty, but first and foremost he's there to assist the groom or the wedding as much as possible, sign the certificate, drive the car to mexico, etc.

Quote :
"The best man is the name given to the chief male assistant to the bridegroom at a wedding. Usually the groom gives this honour to someone who is close to him, either a brother or his closest male friend.

In the context of a traditional American/British white wedding, the best man's duties typically include:

Organizing a bachelor party (U.S.)/ Stag Night (U.K)/ Buck's Night(Aus.) for the groom
Possibly helping plan or organize some details of the wedding
Getting the groom to the wedding on time
Supervising the groomsmen or ushers
Ensuring the rings are brought to the ceremony (usually they will have been given to the best man either earlier in the day or previously) and then passing these to the bride and groom at the appropriate point in the ceremony
Giving a speech at the wedding and thanking the bridesmaids (in the UK this is supposed to be humorous and to (mildly) embarrass the groom)
Decorating the car of the married couple with soap, ribbons, cans and whipped cream.
In the US, the groomsmen assist the best man with these functions.

When the groom wishes to give this honour to a woman, she may be termed the "best woman" or "best person", or may still be referred to as the 'best man'. The bride's equivalent of the best man is the maid or matron of honour. A neutral term is "honour attendant"."

Just because it's on the intarnets doesn't make it universaly true. In all southern weddings I've been to, the dad or brother of the groom was the best man. And we don't do batchelor parties in the south anyways, strippers and excessive drunkeness are generally frowned upon in the Bible belt.

Well let's replace the term "Southern" with "Baptist", and I'd see where you're coming from.

when my buddy got married he referred to both his brother and me as the best man. of course, his brother stood closest to him at the wedding. it worked out fine.

we were also the only two groomsmen and the party planning was done by several of us.

my brother had my dad as best man, and me and his friend as groomsmen.

unless your buddies get jealous easy, it shouldn't matter as long as they're both standing at the altar with you
