I could be wrong, but the 5.7 ammo is usually that expensive. Didn't they stop importing/making it?

Anyways, I am looking for a good conceal carry gun. I wanted to get other people's opinion's that have a CCP. I have several guns that I play with at the range, but not one that is my "carry only" pistol.

Thanks

5.7 is exspesive as hell trying to figure out if i can afford to shoot the new fn five seven pistol and the ps90

for a concealed carry gun go with what works for you there is no right gun to carry.... it depends on your needs ......knock down power, accuracy, reliability, safety... i carry a glock which im sure a few people in here will say sucks but its never gonna fail on me its safe and im gonna hit what im shooting at

Shit, all my pistols double as carry guns.

Best thing do to is hit up the ranges and find out which compact pistol you shoot best with that's concealable. A lot of people shoot really well with a Government 1911, but it's not the most friendly to carry all day, same with a full frame SIG. I recommend polymer, but that's a huge category that's getting bigger every day.

I carry a Steyr S9A1, backed up with a KelTec P3AT.

I hope you didn't misunderstand me. When it comes to shooting, I am at the range about 2-3 times a week and go through enough ammo. I don't consider myself a novice by any means. I was just curious to see what you guys carry.

I am not looking for "carry with what you can shoot" feedback, because I won't buy a gun that I can't shoot or doesn't feel right.

I should start with what I currently have at my place...Glock 22, Sig P229, Walther P22, Kimber Royal.

When it comes to concealing, I don't like the Glock or my Kimber (both full size) because they are a little big to conceal. The Sig is very heavy for such a small gun, but I can live with that. The P22 has no stopping power.

I am looking to get something new. I don't want another Glock. I like the Kimber and I am leaning towards a Kimber Raptor or Carry Pro. The down side is the 7 round mags, but I like the stopping power.

^Thanks, I will check out the steyr

My two carry weapons are a Taurus 24/7 pro, and a Bersa Thunder 380.

Though the taurus is bigger, it was easy to carry in the winter. Now that summer is rolling around, its the 380's turn.

don't know if anybody else has been looking for a pocket pistol but thought I'd let you all know that Lawmen's got a shipment of Keltec P-3ATs in. Picked mine up today for $249 (only other place that has them is YoungGun's, they have ONE for $279). They should have 4 of them left.

Make sure you do the fluff and buff. Also, you didn't happen to see if they had DPX in .380 there, did you?

Thunder, just finished the F&B on it. Didn't check for the DPX. There's a few people doing wetpack tests and it seems that there's some other options out there if you polish the inside of the hood a bit that perform as good/better than the DPX. There's been a few bad results out of some Corbon JHP but they haven't specified which they were.

Most of the wetpack tests (phonebooks) I've seen, have all had DPX as the CLEAR winner. I've heard a lot of good things about that Barnes X bullet, too. So I think I'll switch from the Golden Saber that's in there now, even though I'm much happier with heavier bullet weights. I'll probably stick with Gold Dots in my .40 and the TAP that's in my .45, so I have every major defensive ammomaker covered.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll have to look some of the DPX stuff back up. I must have confused it with something else. That's what I originally planned to use before I "saw" the results.

Well, ballistics is only slightly less defined than voodoo, so it's entirely possible you did see that. If you're on KTOG, look up Two Pistol Packer's testing, IIRC. It's a comparo of Golden Saber, Silvertip, DPX, Hydra shok, and one other that escapes me.

From what I've heard, DPX is under the radar still. It's an incredibly efficient bullet at retaining weight, penetrating and non deflection. From what I remember, it's the only bullet that did not deviate from Point of Aim through a freaking windshield, and retained quite a bit of it's original size

I'll have to dig up some more links for it, Natchez has the best price I've found for 9mm, but they don't have .380.

I am selling a 23 Glock, fired only 150 rounds through it (disassembled and cleaned after each time) plus 3 holsters to go with it. They are a Galco Summer Comfort, Desantis and Fobus. The gun looks brand new, no dings, sratches or anything. The bid is up to $425.

Eagle One has been "opening" their range for the past 4 months. I know they got screwed by at least one company that was supposed to be putting it in but I'll believe it's actually open when I see it. They've given me 6 dates so far and they've all passed. When it DOES open, I'll be interested to see it. It'd be nice to have a 25-50 yard range that you can actually shoot rapid-fire at (instead of Davi's stupid 3 second BS). I haven't talked to them about price in a while but last year when I talked to them, they were talking about $150-ish. It'll be between them and PDHSC for me (I hate PDHSC's lack of long-er distance shooting but their "tactical" range makes up for it).

*edit* gun show? When and where? I thought the next one wasn't until May?

Just an update on Eagle One. I went by there today to pick up one of the new Taurus 1911s and talked to them about the range. HOPEFULLY it will be open at the end of the month. Gave me prices of $100-$150 depending on membership level. He told me that Gold level ($150) would get set up on incentive specials (ammo, accessories, etc.) occasionally, be able to shoot for free as often as you want, could reserve range time online, and would be in competitions and things that they set up. Overall, sounds like a great deal and I definitely like the guys there. The only question is when it will actually be open. They know that me and my friends have been waiting for a while now so he went ahead and told me that it IS up in the air and end of April is the newest goal.

Oh yeah, the Taurus is my first 1911. Shot a couple hundred through it today and I'm already in love. Guess I'm screwed now. I can't stand to downgrade in guns and I just entered a new price point. Oh well.

Also, anybody have a pocket gun for sale (non kel-tec). The P-3AT didn't work for me so I'm on the search for something new. I REALLY don't want to drop $600 on a new Kahr that may or may not be reliable and I'm trying to stay away from the EMP.

Kel-tec just didn't work out. I wasn't impressed with the fit/finish from the get go but I was willing to let it go since it was what I was looking for. After firing it, it just doesn't work. I've had a lot of injuries to my right hand/wrist and I have large hands. Both kept me from being able to keep a grip on it. It was simply too small. So, I need something with a grip that is slightly thicker or slightly longer/deeper front to rear. As it was, I had to adjust my grip after every shot. I also had about 7-8 FTF in the first 84 rounds. With the feed ramp being how it was (I did a F&B but it had a couple of deep machine marks in it) and my grip being as it was, I'm not sure if it was the gun or simply my lack of grip causing limp-wristing imitations.

I was looking at the .32 Beretta Tomcat but I saw way too many issues online to feel comfortable with it. I'll figure something out eventually.

I'd recommend a Colt Hammerless 1903, if you can find them for < 450. They are sweet little shooters, but slow to reload and slightly longer than is generally accepted for a pocket gun.

Seecamp comes to mind, but are almost as expensive as the Kahr, or Rohrbaugh. Hammerless seems to be the best value. P3ATs are not kind to your hand, that's for damn sure. I have a Hogue on mine, and it still wants to walk. Are you open to an airweight wheelgun?

I'm going to make a handgun purchase soon, mostly for range / recreational use, probably won't ever carry. Looking at full size 9mm's. I got these ideas from internet research plus what they typically carry at PDHSC (which is 5 minutes from where I live). I've shot 3 different 9mm plus a few other handguns, none were very nice ones (except for an H&K, I have a relative thats a leo). I have short, stumpy fingers.

Bersa Thunder $368 Bersa may not be the best quality, but gets pretty good reveiws
Ruger P95 $350 Ugly to me, but great price and decent reliability
Steyr M9-A1 $385 Different, I'd have to hold one to see if I liked the grips
Taurus PT92 $380 supposedly a great gun, I'm concerned about its weight
Taurus 24/7 $380 Don't know much about this one

My price range is $$300-400 BTW, if I get a SS version, will I be considered a gang-banger?

^^^^Steyr is the answer.

Price including CDNN's $10 shipping and PDHSCs $30 FFL transfer should be $380 even, though.

CDNN has NIB Steyrs in 40 and 9mm for $340. Which is possibly the sickest deal on a top notch pistol running right now.

But unless you're at PDHSC when I am, you're probably not going to get hands-on experience with them, as most people have never heard of them, let alone stock them.

One or both of my Steyrs are with me whenever I'm there.
