What chip did you install?
Have you had any trouble with it thus far?
I just purchased a Wiikey and will do the quick solder method.

Fuck yeah it is. And if you want to do a full case replacement, it ends up being 3x as many little ass screws. Shit took me 90 minutes just to disassemble. Granted I was being super careful not to fuck anything up, but still.

It's not that it's hard, per se. I mean anyone can do it. It's just a shit ton of screws to remove. And none of the screws are the same size so you better keep track of where you took them out of.

yeah, you can either back them up using a certain DVD drive with modded firmware...or you can dump them to SD card via gamecube homebrew.

Heh, when i installed mine, i punched a screwdriver through the flat cable that goes between the motherboard and the dvd drive.

I had to reroute 6 connections by running a ribbon cable from the motherboard to the dvd drive.

I thought i was fucked for a couple hours.

the LG drive listed in that thread is the only one that can copy the image from the Wii DVD onto the computer....

then you can use pretty much any DVD writer driver to copy from the computer to a DVD.

i got the external enclosure because im most likely transporting the LG drive around.

that afterdawn thread helped me out a lot
