harris teeter requires their meat departments to mark down meat twice DAILY...once in the am and then if it isn't selling, they do it again that night. thats for fresh meats....lunch meats, etc get done about a week before they go out of date and may or may not get marked down again, based on time

^^ My Harris Teeter does their fresh meat markdowns mostly on Thursdays it seems like. I won't tell you which one because I like to keep the free meat to myself

I know there's a page in this thread where someone has sort of written an introduction as to what blogs and sites a person that wants to get into couponing should read, but I haven't found it so far. I'd like to be able to know the general sort of routine I should have.

I'm an undergrad that does a lot of shopping for myself and the girlfriend (or her for the two of us) and I'd like to get into at least casual couponing, and I'm not sure where to start. We don't get a daily newspaper, so I don't really have access to inserts (unless there's a drink or something here).

I've just started to shop exclusively at Harris Teeter for fresh produce and meat, though I still do a lot of general shopping at Food Lion. Even then, I realize how bad Raleigh-area Food Lions are, and sometimes I really don't mind paying a premium for the Harris Teeter selections--and it seems like couponing at Harris Teeter can make up for some of their items being slightly more expensive (breads are about .20 cent more expensive for some reason).

Well I just read up on Southern Savers for the most part, and that's been the most helpful so far. I don't have inserts, but I found some printable coupons so when I go shopping tomorrow I'll take minor advantage of triples.

Yes, SouthernSavers is my fave couponing blog

Here is what I did at HT this morning

2 Wasa Crisp Breads $2. Used $.75/1 IP
1 Margaret Holmes Fancy Spinach $.85. Used $.35/1 coupon
3 French's Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce. $1.99. Used $.75/1 coupon
5 bags Utz chips. Buy 2, get 3 free. Used 2 $.75/1 coupons that were on the back of Wolfpack basketball tickets this season.
2 Biltmore dressings. BOGO free $1.99/1. Used $.75/1 coupon. (husband bought one w/ his card)
2 Athenos Greek yogurts. $1 each. Used $.75/2 coupon

BC: $22.79
AC: $3.51

The only thing I paid for was the Utz chips. $3.48/5 bags of chips. $.70/bag. Not too shabby and these are our fave brand of chips. I think I'll go back later and get some Utz pretzels which are on sale 2/$5 so w/ my $.75/1 coupon, it'll be $.25 a bag. Utz popcorn is on sale $2/bag so it'll be free after my coupon.

Nice job.

I did the Group offer and Meal Deal at Harris Teeter last night.

Got 6 Lara Bars and 4 cans of biscuits for $10, then got the $4 back instantly and had some coupons for the biscuits.

Also got the 2 Red Baron pizzas (their Pan Pizzas are awesome), a 2L of Diet Coke (was buying anyway) and a TGIF Appetizer (sliders) for $10. I also had an e-Vic coupon for $1 off the Red Baron pizzs but it doesn't look like it took on the receipt, oh well. e-Vic coupons can be spotty at times.

~$62.25 before tax. After VIC/coupons the total was 11.09

I could've done better, but a lot of the items that wouldve been free(Wasa crackers, French's mustard/worcetershire, Franks red hot, etc) were already cleaned out.

I must say that this is going to be tough on me because the type of people that are present in the grocery store at this time are unbearable. Most were moving at about a foot an hour, parked out in front of the mustard that is no longer on the shelf. They can't seem to figure out that the supply has already been depleted... move your 39-year old fat mom ass out of the way plz. The ones that brought kids were even worse. YOU CAYNT GET THE BATMAN TOOTHPASTE, WE DONT HAVE A COUPON

That said, I was happy we managed to get useful items this time rather than 8 tubs of mayo

I put the wrong link above. Here is the one with all the links to the good coupons:

http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/harris-teeter/408085-harris-teeter-ad-good-deals-5-18-5-24-a.html

For the Silk specifically, it is on sale for 2.50. There is a 75 cent coupon here:

http://www.silkpurealmond.com/#

Final cost is a quarter

Snuggle is on VIC for 2.99. We use the crap out of it, so 74 cents is a steal

and I am not convinced my e-vic coupons worked this time. I saved them online and bought 2 products. I can't see it on my receipt though. Does it show up in any special way on the receipt?

It should show up on the receipt at the bottom with the coupons tendered area.

Any idea if the coupon is photocopied it will still work? Or is it a unique barcode? We go through Silk pretty quickly at my condo.

Edit - I can't get the stupid coupon to print, the site hangs up on me when it's "Initializing Print" - oh well.

Went this morning with a friend. We got around $135 of groceries for $23.

iced tea bags, sorbets, frozen crunchy fish filets, italian ices, nut bars, toothpaste, hormel compleats (for him), peanut butters, salad dressings, yogurts, crab/shrimp cakes, lobster bisque...2 of everything, except 6 boxes of the nut bars, and only 1 of the crab cakes/lobster bisque each.

Also, I just bought these from Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Traverse-Bay-Fruit-Co-Cherries/dp/B000H7LVKY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1305744154&sr=8-1

It's an okay deal on dried cherries. And just like raisins, they're nature's candy! AHAHAHAHA, I can't wait to disappoint my children with dried fruit as candy.

^^Yeah, they do show up. I think it can take a while for them to load onto your card--I've seen people recommend you wait 24 hours before trying to use them. Could this be the issue?

wow I am surprised you got the Wisk at HT....it was free on Sunday at Kroger and is still only .99 if you have anymore of your coupons.

Also, never make photocopies of coupons as that is fraud. They will not scan because there is a unique code on each one.

I did triple a few times. I found it quite mediocre I got a few things I needed. A nice surprise on the French's bonus pack (mustard + free dipping sauce). My husband brings me coupons from vendors at work. So I got a lot of different stuff for free....NOS, raisenet boxes, power bars, etc.

They messed up so much my second order I only paid .11 cents. FYI an easy overage if you need it...Load the fixadent coupon on your VIC and use the $3 off coupon from the P&G. Instant overage =)

T ishis my biggest pet peeve and why I don't put much effort into coupons. Anything that's a good deal some jerk has bought out even though you only need like one thing of mustard a year.

For the store coupons that are $X off a $Y purchase when is the $Y value determined? Whatever the total is at the point they scan it? I'm wondering if I hand them a couple coupons with that one on top if they'd scan it first and then it would be OK if the total value of my transaction dropped below that dollar amount. But I really don't want to be the person who tells them in what order they have to scan my coupons.

For that, I go to the regular check-out (not the self check-out). I hand them the x off y first. Wait till they scan it, and then hand them the rest of the coupons. If you don't want to feel too obvious about what you're doing, you can keep those coupons in a separate place and whip them out really quick after they scan the x off y...so it just seems natural that you did it that way.

Its been my experience that when you have a coupon that is like $10 off a $50 purchase, the $50 is supposed to be the after coupon total.

So after all your coupons have been scanned, if your total is $50 or over, you can use the $10 coupon

I have heard experiences where cashiers at HT have let people use $$ off your order coupons before all other coupons. But this is not the case everywhere. I know for a fact that the new North Hills HT did not let my brother use the $$ of his order coupon before any of his other coupons.

He told me that he handed the cashier a stack of coupons w/ the $$ of your order coupon on top. The cashier set the $$ off coupon to the side and scanned the rest of his coupons. His after coupon total was like $35 so the cashier handed the coupon back and said he couldn't use it.

Yeah, I do the $5 off $25 at FL just the way I described.

As far as I know, none of the official store policies are opposed to this, and their machines aren't designed to prevent it, and the offers themselves don't say "$10 off a $50 total after all other coupons"...

the Leesville HT was totally out of all the French's mustards and eggo stuff

yesterday at noon I got the last Palmolive soft and granola thins at the HT down on Davis Dr

people are just clearing out shelves all over the place

I'd really be curious to know if there's an HT anywhere in the area not plagued with sellouts every week (that one in Leesville Towne Center sells out of stuff all the time)

^^I'm sorry I missed your post.

I was at the college HT on Western, and it was nearly cleaned out, which is saying something...it typically has way less couponers than stores in "nicer" areas.

It'll be nice when this Extreme Couponing trend passes.

Guh went to Harris Teeter and it was sold out of so much shit. Ridiculous. The only stuff I was really able to score was shit on top shelves others weren't willing to climb the shelves to buy Still managed to save $40 on stuff I did buy but it was kind of ridiculous. And triple coupons bring out the crazies apparently. I saw a girl SCREAMING at her husband when they would get to a shelf and it was sold out of whatever. It was kind of scary

I got free yakisoba today so that made it worth it

So the night of the 17th I kind of did a mad-dash learn-up on coupons and took about 7 Red Plum mail coupon books, some P&G, some other booklets, and some printables, and went for HT Triples on the 18th.

We were there at like 2PM, but most of the coupon items were there in force. This was the HT in Cameron Village too.

Me and girlfriend did separate checkouts, mostly because there was a lot of my coupons that she needed more than me. She got about ~$30 of coupon items and I got about ~$15. Seems like that was decent for our first try at it.

Next time I will have my cart ready to check out at 645AM. Evidently the coupons take effect at 7AM

Apparently during Triples, HT gets a truck in overnight

I went to the HT in Stonehenge this morning and it was STOCKED w/ everything. Nothing was out of stock.

Here is what I got:
1 Tampax Super
1 Tabasco hot sauce
2 Franks Red Hot
3 Frenchs Spicy Brown
2 McCormick Perfect Pinch
2 Kraft salad dressings
2 Biltmore salad dressings
2 French's Worchestire
2 Halls cough drops
1 Snuggle dryer sheets
1 Wisk Detergent
1 Smart Balance popcorn
2 Ritz Crackerfuls

BC $37.09
AC $.61

Got overages on the Ritz Crackerfuls b/c of an EVIC coupon for BOGO free. Combined with a $.75/1 IP that I had, it was some serious overage. The Crackerfuls were $3.99 but on VIC special for $2.99. I had 2 $.75/1 IP that I used that took off the full $2.25. The EVIC coupon for BOGO free took off the full $3.99 price and not the VIC price. So I had an overage of $2.51 that I put towards the Snuggle, Wisk and Tampax.

yay for being in stock......I really only did Triples the first day. The deals were only ok. There were totally too many people! I will say the HT I went to before work on Wed. was already cleared out of several items by 6:30am.

^(not going to count up) My husband goes through a bottle of mustard every 3 weeks. It is one of his main food groups. So I do tend to buy 3-6 at a time when I go get some on sale.

I went the 2nd day for all the baby coupons I got in the mail and paired them with the baby clearance at the HT at 55/54. Free juice, food, and puffs. I didn't bring any other coupons but it had most of the condiments still in stock on Thursday. At this point it is really hit or miss.

My big score was at CVS. I went in to check to see if they had my rc stuff in stock and noticed the pediasure was marked down 50%. I went home and grabbed my $2 off any coupon and they actually rang up at 75% off. They had the pedilalyte at 75% also!! got it all free after coupons

I have stopped at Kroger to get the free flushable wipes this week too.....Kandoo is 10/10 and there is a coupon in the April P&G for $1 off.

I also had Walmart Price Match the Walgreens ad for the $1/1 fruit crisps and paired it with the .75 coupon. It came out cheaper than doing it at HT for triples and there was plenty in stock. (funny thing is I am starting to just take a bunch of ads to Walmart so that they will PM and I do everything one time.) Great for cherry picking the best price!

For those of us without a Harris Teeter...

I discovered that by going on foodlion.com, you can sign up/login in with a redplum account and clip coupons directly to your MVP card. No printing necessary and the coupons will allegedly be applied at check out.

There's supposed to be an option for "print shopping list" but I don't see it. I did find a RedPlum app for my android phone, which you can also use to clip coupons. It seems that not all of the coupons showed up on there, and not all of my clipped offers were there either, but still a cool tool.

Also, I've been checking on

coupons.com
redplum.com
southernsavers.com (best for me so far)
couponnetwork.com

and a few others that had the same crappy coupons, plus others that were linked from one of the above sites (like Kraft and Betty Crocker). I checked CVS online but they didn't have anything good.

Any other places I'm missing? There was that Charlotte based website where you could buy hand clipped coupons but they required like $4 of coupons clipped...that's a lot of commitment for me considering they were like 5 cents a pop.

http://grocerysmarts.com/man.php seems to have a ton, but its just a long, alphabetized text list of coupons they have.

I'm wanting to join in on the harris teeter couponing but need a few helps.

You load coupons from that website onto your vic card then you take other coupons and they get tripled if its the 18th? doubled when?

Apparently the way to do HT triples is avoid HT the first few days when all the crazy couponers are out and then go a few days later and find everything back in stock. I only got maybe 5 things with triples but they were all there fully stocked.

I went to HT and Lowe's Foods this morning. I had maybe 15 coupons total between both stores, and I got ~$161 worth of stuff for ~$75. I cite that not to brag, because I know it's not a crazy savings, but to reiterate that just paying attention to the circulars and using a few coupons (the only ones I had were ones mailed to my house in the mid-week values thing with all the grocery store ads) can really make a difference. You don't have to be obsessed with clipping coupons.

So I don't have to list the kind of stuff I got:

bagged produce is broccoli, bean sprouts, zucchini, parsley. Cat litter wasn't on sale by much, I just needed it.

^^Plus, those milks last way longer than regular milk!

^The coupon situation just changed officially around the same time that Fhqwhgads posted it.

But the one-item-at-half-off situation has been around for a very long time. I couldn't tell you precisely when they changed the policy to let you get one item for half off, but I can say that it was years ago.

Without the recent coupon change though, it was a pain in the butt. I always bought one item and used one coupon. Then you walk it out to your car and put the groceries away. And walk right back in for another of the same item with another coupon. You could buy two at once, but a lot of times, they would only let you use one coupon if you did it that way...and during a super doubles or triples event with lots of BOGO deals, the ability to use two coupons on two items instead of one coupon on two items can add up to a lot of money.
