^^ & ^
Thanks, I appreciate the responses. It seems gun enthusiasts do a lot of trying out and then reselling, so I think I'll do that. Given it's my first gun, I may just keep it for sentimental reasons though.

^From what you're saying, the 500 might have better internal parts even if (perhaps just to me) it doesn't feel as solid in-hand. Any idea if the 590 feels a bit more solid? Or if the 500 can be modified to feel that way?

the biggest difference to me is the 500 has the slide release in a convenient spot where you don't have to change your grip and the 870's slide release requires you to choke up on the gun and put your finger in front of the trigger guard.

and the fact that you couldn't pay me to put a remington in my safe.

590 is a little nicer, but still not super high quality.
You want the A1 series for higher quality; ie. 590A1
I have a 590, and have probably 3-400 shells through it with no complaints.
It is the 20" barrel and I still have no trouble busting clays.

I recently inherited a muzzleloader, I;ve shot them before but not in a while, and I don't have any of the equipment.

Anyone know somewhere in Raleigh that sells caps and round balls? Not Hill's, they're sold out.

So, Buffalo Bore...quality rounds or hype?

I just purchased a box of BB .38 spl 158gr SWC-HC for my Colt because its the only the non +p SWC that I could find. This will also be my first defense round that isn't from Speer.

They're quality. The velocities they publish have all been true, or even underestimated in all of the ammunition tests I've read. Velocity variations are small and accuracy is usually good.
I've had some in 38+P but now carry Double Tap just because of cost. Double Tap's published velocities tend to be a tiny bit overrated but they're still hotter and more consistent than stuff from the big brands.

Thanks! I think that's what I meant. I was looking at this one:
http://grabagun.com/msbrg-590a1-12-18-5-cyl-park-syn-grs.html

Would that be a good option? Are they ever cheaper than that?

^ The 51663 model 590A1 holds a couple more:

Looking at this to put on my Creedmoor. Anything else I should cross shop? From what I'm reading, it's nicer than the Vortex Viper (and the Vortex Razor is a shitload more expensive). Maybe Sightron or Nightforce? I don't know too much about those two. Anyone have experience with these scopes?

^^Thanks. Is there anything with 18.5" that holds more? Just trying to compare everything equally, especially as my 870 has 18.5" barrel.

stopped at dick's tonight to get some .270 ammo for my mom's boyfriend for xmas. i couldn't believe my eyes when i saw a dozen or more 100 rd trays of 36 gr MiniMags for $10 each

i got my 3 box limit and my wife got hers. sucks that it's $.10/rd instead of the $.07/rd it was a just over a year ago, but it seems like it's going to be the norm for a while.

Any reason I shouldn't get this?
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001RMWTJA
$30 3-9x40 Simmons scope. Would be for plinking with one of the ARs. Or I'll throw it on the .22 AR.

I was looking at $60 used ones that were higher magnification, but I could get 2 of these Simmons for that. I don't want anything over kill. Just something for up to 150 yards. Max 200.

Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40 would be a lot more scope and worth the extra money, imo.

Finally got my shit together:

Put a foregrip on it and a flip up rear sight, for now.

Delton lower, PSA Premium LPK, PSA upper with Premium BCG, PSA 1:7 barrel, BCM Gunfighter charging handle, other furniture is Magpul... Pretty happy with how it turned out. Not bad for catching deals on stuff and coming in under 800.

so one of the nicer hunting lodges i'm acquainted with is selling some of their "house guns". A lot of nice O/U shotguns like Citoris and Beretta SVP. They are asking around $800. It seems like a decent deal as this is a pretty upscale lodge so i know the guns have been maintained, but they're still rentals. some minor dings on the stocks and probably 1000s of rounds through them. Thoughts?

I would just check to make sure you can still thread a choke in the barrel but IMHO those two guns are relatively robust. The only thing I could think is that it may need a barrel change from some sort of dumbassery like firing. Without a choke in or something like that.

I' wouldn't mind one if they have extras :-)

^^ I've got a regular sling too, but that's the one I was playing with at the time. Generally though, when using a single point, you have a hand on the grip anyway so there's not too much nut slammin'.

I have acquired all the various and sundry stuff that you need to shoot a muzzleloader. Actually shooting it will happen prior to 2014. I'll be sure to report back.

Also, I was really surprised by how many gun shops I walked into only to astound the guy behind the counter that I was going to shoot a round ball, wadding, and powder out of a muzzleloader. Sabots and powder pellets have really taken over.

because using sabots and powder pellets has effectively extended the rifle hunting season by 2 weeks

but, fwiw, the range where i shoot always has plenty of round patches about 20 feet downrange from folks shooting traditional blackpowder guns

i really hated the orange birch stock that came on my CMP service grade. i bought an unfinished dupage american black walnut stock set and stained it with a stain mix a guy on the CMP forums makes to replicate the color of old US service rifles. finished it with 7 coats of boiled linseed oil. got it back together tonight.

Any idea where I can get this? I want something that I can bolt to my closet wall that will give me quick access to a pistol but someone would at least have to rip it off a wall to get to it.

Nice thanks. Seems like the reviews are a bit mixed on if it takes your prints or not like all the other ones I have looked at.

Anyone have a similar safe that they would recommend?

I have this installed in my truck under the bench seat (bolted in through the frame), and I love it. Quick pin access or key access if batteries die. It could be installed in a closet as well I'd imagine.

I am literally looking for something to keep kids out and something that a criminal couldn't grab while my alarm system is going off but I would still have access to when things go bump in the night. I have a real safe and always set the alarm system, if someone breaks in they would have a couple minutes to grab what they can and I doubt that would include ripping something like that off the wall but they would take a pistol sitting on a shelf.

I've read that some fingerprint scanners can take up to 10-20 fingerprint scans allowed for access, and that you should max out the scans with the same finger.
