...but lately I've been really digging me some Clint Black.

I've been feeling kind of melancholy, too. Reckon the damn lunar cycle has anything to do with this?

you need to check out some badass country, like Merle Haggard or Steve Earle. You might like some Robert Earl Keen, too.

although I like some Clint Black, too.

and CoC...AiC, RHCP, Motley Crue, Metallica, Smokey Robinson, Temptations, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Misfits.

No reason to exclude country music just because you like a bunch of badass rock.

I've been listening to the first Mike Ness (of Social Distortion) solo album. It's one of the first CDs that got me to cross over into country.

95% of country music is, by far, the worst music ever made, and that will ever be made

the other 5% is good, though

the only redeeming value of most of this crap are the often humorous lyrics

(if only you didn't have to hear them sung like a retarded goat with "redneck inflection" )

bad: nearly anything played on the radio or the mtv, especially music played while wearing a cowboy hat

mostly good: johnny cash, tracy chapman, bob dylan, ween's country album, most bluegrass

[Edited on November 27, 2007 at 8:24 AM. Reason : i like hank III, thats country that some rednecks havent even heard of. ]

it all sounds the same?

how about some EXAMPLES from the ignorant masses out there?

what sounds the same? and you gotta come up with a legit sample.... not 3 guys/groups....

and if you find yourself using google to complete this assignment, then you had no business making the comment to begin with

Country and rap music are remarkably similar in that both genres typically rely on colorful lyrics, an outlaw undertone, and a repitition of the same themes.

Bitches ain't shit (cause they left me for my brother and took my dog).

Seriously, adults complain so much about rap music. But have they listened to country music? Every album includes a song devoted to destructive, extreme binge drinking.

Obviously, there are stand-out artists from both genres doing new, creative, meaningful things, but most of that shit doesn't make the radio.

^^ & ^ Excellent arguments.

There are soooo many subgenres in both genres, and while there are definitely similar styles, it hardly all sounds the same.

I'm a big fan of the Bakersfield sound (like Buck Owens)...

except no, you're wrong

I provided both context and examples

and I never said anything about "it all sounds the same"

nice try though

(it should also be pointed out that one usually doesn't make a mental note of the artist's name of music they dislike)

(as well as one's musical taste being mostly subjective)

I like some country and a lot of rap

especially the kind that blurs the line between the two

in fact, there's not a musical genre that I don't appreciate at least somewhat

except operatic vocal music, which I respect but hate.

(I think I'm so cynical as to be turned off by the human voice )

"'cause the shit all sounds the same."

come on now,

you're gonna say that rap all sounds the same?

and you're not gonna say that about country?

I saw a country song generator on the internet as early as 1995

that would generate over a million different country songs (complete with chords and lyrics)

now, both rap and country may repeat the same themes, both melodically, rhythmically and lyrically

but all genres do that; that's usually what defines a musical genre in the first place

notice the syncopation in reggae music; could you really have reggae without it?

does it make all reggae sound the same?

is that bad?

or take jazz (head, bridge, solo, solo, arrhythmic drum solo, head, bridge, head)

or the blues (I,I,I,I,IV,IV,I,I,V,V,I,I,repeat)

it "all sounding the same" isn't really a reason not to like a musical genre

you may just not find it very tasteful, and that's ok

IMO, it's just that county has, perhaps, the least amount of originality and variation of all the [popular] genres

and, (like rap,) I somewhat associate the culture with racism

Don Williams FTW...
And if you want some damn good Folk/Rock/Country check out John Prine...too many people are scared to reach out and try new types of music...give me some "off the beaten path" artists
