Its settled. I'm seeing how its forming. Its the only traditional type of race.
A mormon is a big No No !!!
Huckabee is corrupt. The gifts, the bribes and his son hanging an animal. And the 1000 pardons. He fooled me.
Guiliani. No way. An italian and a new yorker that's a prick and a socialite.
No need for comment on hilary and obama. 12/18/2007 5:10:04 PM |

strike this thread . . . who knows. it's up in the air. for the Republicans any choice other than McCain is suicide.
the Dems . . . i like the idea of Barack. Hilary would be awkward, but a powerful image boost ... and I like what Edwards is saying. he's sticking it to the government more than Barack or Hilary. he's the only one really calling Bush out about how fucked up the war is. i mean i think its a good war, but it has its faults. 12/18/2007 11:15:02 PM |

well. i mean its a good war in that its not a "bad war". we're meeting our objectives. we're finding people. we're restoring order in some parts. and you know, war is a challenge, but I commend Bush. he's been a great leader for our country. but you know, with anything you have some mistakes. i feel like McCain is the best in overlooking the small errors we've made and moving forward to win/end this war. 12/19/2007 4:41:21 PM |

oh ok, so you mean from the standpoint of progress. gotcha haha, i was about to say
he's been a horrible leader for our country, he doesn't lead. leading requires inspiring people, uniting people. he's too much of a crusader. and he's not running the war at all, he's left that to people like cheney who have done a horrible job (possibly because of who they relied on for advice, but you'd think they'd be smart enough to pick the right people instead of the like-minded people)
i like mccain a lot too. i love ron paul but i could def go for mccain. to me he seems like the joe biden of the republican party 12/19/2007 4:48:47 PM |

Reid's the Senate majority leader, which is a very important position in a coequal branch of government. If his religion doesn't matter, why does a presidential candidate's? 12/21/2007 4:00:41 AM |

^^well by your reasoning, we should only allow atheists in office because there is not one religious person out there that wouldn't let their faith affect their policy

i'm not saying that either should be mentioned. but it's not a conspiracy.
1) 98% of the country doesn't vote for harry reid. 2) the congress isn't given as much media attention as the presidential candidates. 3) reid isn't running for anything in iowa, where voters had voiced discomfort with his mormon faith. 4) reid didn't make a speech for the national audience about his faith.

Well, aside from the fact that I don't care about a given persons religion (unless they use it to bother me) then it doesn't matter.
But I think the answer you're looking for is that the president is one person that controls the whole branch of government. The Senate leader is one person that simply tries to maintain sanity with 99 other people. He doesn't control everything that comes in and out of the Senate, though I imagine he could shut it down for a short time if he wanted too, but then he'd probably be removed from his seat by the rest of the democrats.
Put simply, Reid isn't as powerful as a president and therefore isn't as important as a person.12/21/2007 4:54:06 PM |

Agree with the possibility of this outcome. The best indicator of future performance is the past, notwithstanding that it's still a pretty bad indicator.
I think Edwards understands Iowa. He has lived and breathed Iowan politics looking for the "big score." And McCain no doubt understands New Hampshire.
These are states where grassroots means something and the candidates who work it, win. That doesn't guarantee a primary victory. But it does make for a solid foundation going forward. 12/24/2007 6:05:23 AM |

Well, Reid is quite obviously willing to make decisions that conflict his faith, because he cares more about the constitution. It seems that Romney is more willing to let his faith override the constitution. 12/24/2007 3:12:10 PM |

Such as what? Examples, please. Reid may let other factors override his faith, but faithful adherence to the Constitution does not immediately strike one as "one of them."
(The same goes double for Romney - he was pro-choice as governor, and is now running as pro-life. Clearly, other factors seem to matter more than his Mormon religion - but the Constitution hardly seems to be one of them...)12/24/2007 3:30:23 PM |

basing your predictions on what people in VA think is probably not the most accurate way. virginia isn't important in choosing the nominees. believe me: in the states that matter to selecting the next nominee (IA, NH, SC, NV) EVERYONE knows who all these candidates are. hell they probably can't get away from the candidates and their commercials and speeches. 12/26/2007 2:11:43 PM |
